So we had 4 members of the family over today to check on me and drop off some supplies
Since I've been sick we haven't been out of the house much so our family has been very helpful. One of them looked at me and says, so.....when this is all over, what's going to happen to all of your tools? (I have an extensive workshop) I'm still trying to decide what to respond with. I just stared at him in disgust and…

Since your diagnosis, do you find that you have a new affinity for others with health problems now?
I never used to give it a second thought when I would see someone on oxygen, in a wheelchair, using a walker, or some other obvious health issue. Now I find I look and instantly think if there's any way I can help them right now. Get in their car, get something off the grocery shelf for them, etc. Just me or is this…

Today is Melanoma Monday and May is Melanoma Awareness Month
Spring is here, and all of us are ready for warmer weather and sunshine. But wait just a minute. While we need sunshine for Vitamin D production, too much sun is linked to melanoma and other skin cancers. Moderation and liberal use of sunscreen help protect us from skin damage by the sun.n Today's blog post has information…

Ya know, it's sad...
I'm working from home. I've been chit-chatting via email w/someone on my team. She mentioned that her nephew at just passed away. After expressing appropriate condolences, that first thing I said was that I hoped it wasn't the stupid virus. My ghod, has society changed! Oh, and he had been fighting cancer for awhile -- not…

Quarantine ended
What will you do when the quarantine is ended? Personally, I'm staying inside for another 6 months after. I'll be 74 next month, had cancer, had a heart attack (chemo induced), have asthma. Boy howdy! I fit the profile for 24% of the deaths (the other 86% are male).

I have lost my job due to my inability to keep up. Now I will be attempting to file for disability.
I know I read on here a while back someone posted about going through this. Can anyone here tell me factual information about if we can get it, and what is required? Are there any people here that are in the legal field in their day job? I was going to go to the SS office and just start the process, I called and they told…

How do you feel about the statement that "Oh, you are so strong, I couldn't do it"?
I appreciate their sentiment, but seriously, what else are we supposed to do? I guess we could take the information from the doctor and decide nope, I'm done, see you. But realistically the human spirit and instinct is to fight to survive. So, I do what I have to, strong? I don't know. I guess it takes strength, some of us…

I have a surgery coming up in a couple weeks. The scheduling nurse just called to ask If I have been
She said I would have to have the test results with me when I come to check in for the surgery, or I won't be able to have the surgery. Has anyone else had to do this?

Drug or Chemo Therapy | Chemotherapy
Went for my fourth chemo, last dd-Adriamycin/Cytoxin combo, on Wednesday, 4/29. So far so good. Minimum side effects. Having had an extra week between my second and third chemo seems to have given my body time to heal and recover.

Low Hemoglobin
Hi, Anyone had any experience with taking iron supplements and/or getting iron infusions? I was tested and it came out a little low so a choice was offered to me. Reading about it mentioned that PPI or antacids can prevent your system from absorbing iron and I've been on Omezaprole about a year for acid reflux. another…

Celebration | Mastectomy Incision Healed Well- No More Appointments for Awhile
My incision and drain port healed well. Surgeon was pleased with everything. I cried a bunch of happy tears- catharsis. I got a "knitted knocker" today to put in my bra to help balance me a little. I am so grateful for my caring and compassionate doctor and her assistant.

Have you noticed that "TeleHealth" services used to be a new thing but now everyone is doing it?
Before this coronavirus thing telehealth was just being explored to see if it would work and if patients would come on board with it. Now during this lockdown, I see ads on TV every day from medical facilities offering it. Have any of you done this?

What would you say is the biggest or scariest issue about cancer for you, and how do you cope with it? Is it the fear of treatment? Fear of losing your hair? Disfigurement? Possibly dying? Losing your job? The fear of the unknown?

A friend of mine's father had cancer, stage IV, on hospice, and was going downhill fast
He kept telling everyone he wanted some peace and quiet and for everyone to leave and leave him alone. The family had been trading shifts staying with him and nobody wanted to leave him alone. Somehow, he convinced them to give him some time. When they returned from their time away he had killed himself. A few years ago…

Has anyone had experience with Keytruda
I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer on December 13, 2018 through an endoscopy/biopsy. From December through February 2019, I received 28 radiation treatments concurrent with 6 chemo treatments. I declined surgery due to age (85). On May 31, 2019, an endoscopy/biopsy showed that the cancer was gone and on September 23,…

Have you seen the dreaded "Out Of Network Service" stamped on your insurance paperwork?
It gets frustrating dealing with medical bills and the insurance that is supposed to be paying for them. You buy a policy that says it will pay XYZ if you have ABC happen to you. But then when you get your "Explanation of Benefits" from your insurance company you see that a large portion of charges were not covered because…

Someone asked me how it felt to be a "cancer victim"
I stood there for a minute taking that in before saying anything. I didn't know what to say, but I don't feel like a victim. I wasn't robbed at gunpoint late at night at a CStore. I guess I would prefer a patient. What do you call yourself? I have never thought about it.

Time for a check up
I haven't been back to the doctor since one week after I got out of the hospital. I had a surgery scheduled for April 1 but it got canceled. I set up a check-up appointment to look at my neck to be sure there's nothing bad going on. I have pain on one side of my throat when I swallow, and on the other side, it hurts when I…
