Procedure or Surgery | Surgery
After 24 years, the renal cell cancer metastasized to my right lung which presented as heart attack like symptoms. Lower lobe of the lung was removed. That's a surgery like no other!
-
Procedure or Surgery | Surgery
11 months after the first metastasis, it metastasized into my thyroid gland. Removed the gland and now on thyroid hormone meds for the balance of my life. Very rare metastasis, but as both my surgeons said, this shouldn't be happening after this length of time.

Chyle leak?
Hi! It’s been a while. I have been sort of offline for a while. Helping in some other areas. I am currently in the hospital. Went in for a C5 C6 repair. Sort of related to my radiation and prior cancer surgeries. Well I sprung a Chyle (lymph) leak. Apparently it is very rare in head and neck surgery but does happen. So I…

Have you heard of a doctor telling a newly diagnosed patient that they had "the good kind" of cancer
I have breast cancer, nothing good about it, but my friend was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Her doctor told her to not worry too much about it because thyroid cancer was the "good kind". I don't believe there is a "good kind". I started looking around to see what he was talking about and I came across this article…

Just Finished a Webinar where they said Stress is Really Hard on Immunity
Some of you know I took aromatherapy certification classes awhile back - I've kind of gotten away from it all for the last year or so, but today the place I took the certification class had a Webinar on COVID19 and essential oils. One of the presenters covered the biology of cells, specifically the virus cells. Her…

Have you ever heard these two phrases "it takes a village to fight cancer"
or "when one person in the family gets cancer, the whole family gets cancer"? That's usually the way it goes. I wrote an article describing my family's cancer experiences through my diagnosis. Even though they aren't the ones that are taking the treatments, our family and friends are feeling the effects of our cancer. Take…

One of my local TV stations has a segment they are running every hour on the hour
They call it your Coronavirus Update. It's an update about the number of cases in our area. It seldom changes, but the number keeps going up because of all the new testing being done. I think it does more harm than good because some people are just sitting around stressing over it.

For the last month or better lots of ads on TV and Radio are using the tagline "we are all in this t
and "we will get through this together". So today, I saw one that wins the award for the best ad so far. It said, "we are all in this together, except for those idiots protesting, they're on their own".

If you have been diagnosed with cancer for any length of time, do you feel like you're always lookin
Imagine you're going about your day, minding your own business, when someone sneaks up behind you... You feel something press up against the back of your head, as someone whispers in your ear. "Sssshhhhh.... don't turn around. Just listen. I am holding a gun against the back of your head. I'm going to keep it there. I'm…

Drug or Chemo Therapy | Chemotherapy
I began having coughing fits before my third chemo which kept me from sleeping well. The NP working with my Oncologist suggested I take Claritan every day and also add Prilosec as heart burn is often a side effect of chemo. Both helped as did giving my body an extra week to recover. I had my third chemo on Wednesday, 4/15.

Are you holding it together or falling apart?
Anyone can give up, it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone would understand if you fell apart, now that’s true strength. ~ Chris Bradford

Did anyone get misdiagnosed in the beginning?
When I first had a problem I went to my PCP. He said we needed a CT scan. After the scan, the radiologist that read the scan said there was nothing to worry about. The scan showed some lymph nodes that were swollen and he described them as "Unimpressive". Or nothing to worry about. If I would have left it at that I…

Barry Brady Act in TN
Hey Greg. Have you or anyone else heard of the Barry Brady Act? I noticed this in one of our group's benefits. I guess the state of Tennessee enacted a bill allowing special testing for fire fighters for certain types of cancer . They can get tested annually, but are considered opted out if they miss a year. Testing can be…

I had a doctor's appointment to be canceled yesterday. Has this happened to anyone else?
They called me to verify the appointment and the nurse asked me a bunch of questions over the phone about how I was doing. Then she said to wait a minute while she talked with the doctor. When she came back on the line she told me that the doctor said that I didn't need to come in. But I should call them if I have any…

Procedure or Surgery | Lumpectomy
I was surprised to find that I am still felling pain and sensitivity a couple weeks after my lumpectomy.
-
Oh No | Just Diagnosed
Based on my biopsy, I was told that I have DCIS. After my lumpectomy, though, I was told that I have stage 1 invasive ductal carconoma and that I need chemo. That threw me for a loop because I was only expecting radiation.

Strawberry question
It’s strawberry season where I live. I have an Ostomy bag from my ilostomy surgery. Are those things on the outside considered seeds? Should I peel that off before eating? Crazy question I know.
