So we had 4 members of the family over today to check on me and drop off some supplies

Since I've been sick we haven't been out of the house much so our family has been very helpful. One of them looked at me and says, so.....when this is all over, what's going to happen to all of your tools? (I have an extensive workshop) I'm still trying to decide what to respond with. I just stared at him in disgust and ignored him

Wow! I actually had a similar encounter with a "friend". It was the year I was going through treatment. This person and his son had taken it upon themselves to stack my firewood delivery. How nice. I went out to pretend to stack a little wood and started conversing. He asked me what was going to become of my property after I was gone!!!! I can't remember how I responded out loud but I remember thinking, you sure aren't going to get your hands on it! NOT appropriate!

That is an insensitive and inappropriate question! I would tell him you have already promised it to someone.
    What a dope!

The wildest thing to me about this is that it's not planned, thought, or determined that I will be anywhere close to not being here to use and enjoy my workshop. It reminds me of the old cartoons where the undertaker is measuring you for a coffin while you're still standing up.

That's been done before and reported here. As crazy as it seems, if you can imagine it, it has happened. People are just not that smart when it comes to what's right and what's wrong.. That's also part of the problem with today's society.

Well ... hmmm. That was pretty insensitive!!! I'm sitting here, just shaking my head at it. People will never cease to surprise me. (I would make sure to amend my will to be sure HE does not get a single screwdriver when that time does come!!!!!)

Tell him you are taking steps to be sure no "tools" are included in your estate planning- and he will be the first "tool" for disposal.

That is the most thoughtless comment imaginable. Probably he's guilty of not thinking before the words fly out of his mouth. I am so sorry.

How about making a rather pointed reference to your saws & wood-choppers!!!!

On a day when I'm feeling some restraint I would do as you did - stare at him in disgust and then ignore him. On a day when I'm feeling annoyed I would stare at him in disgust, tell him it was a rude thing to say, and then ignore him.
