Ringing the Bell
I am on a patient board at the hospital where I get my cancer treatments. I learned today that one of the topics at the next meeting is how patients celebrate their final treatment - for instance, with ringing a bell. There's been some research that suggests it is not necessarily a great idea, even for the person doing the…

What has your experience been with gabapentin?
I was given a prescription for it because of tingling in my feet. A friend of mine who went through cancer a few years ago said Oh no, you don't want to take that, the side effects are worse than the tingling. I've known her to blow things out of proportion before. So, what about it, have you daken it without terrible side…

It's been 6 weeks since my laryngectomy and bilateral neck dissection.
Here is an update about adjusting to a new life living as a laryngectomee. As we hear often cancer patients have a "new normal". This thing has nothing "normal" about it, but it is mine. So I'm learning the unique quirks to being a "neck breather". Here is my latest article>>http://bit.ly/3cZtadd

I went to the pharmacy to get a new prescription filled for cholesterol that doctor gave me
It's 427.00 compared to 24.00 for the old prescription. Do these doctors not even know what this stuff costs? EVeryone just assumes that we are money loaded and nothing is a problem. Medical bankruptcy is the number one reason people file bankruptcy in the US, this is out of hand!

Has there been any of this coronavirus flu been reported near you?
As we cancer patients are all in a weakened condition, I hope none of it comes close.

Nausea and anxiety
Does anyone have any over the counter remedies to help with nausea and anxiety. Mine seems to be getting worse. I'm on prochlorazine and olanzapine for nausea. And was on lorazepam for nausea but my new Dr won't prescribe it. Wondering if anyone gas found something that isn't a prescription that worked for them?

What are the little annoyances you 've had to deal with since treatment??
I know a cancer diagnosis has in many cases turned our lives upside down and left us with many major changes. I'm thinking of Greg and what he's learning to deal with and I know there are others who have had to deal with much worse. But what are the little things that have you frustrated? I love string cheese and since I'm…

What Cancer Patients need to know about the Coronavirus
I came across this article from a Cancer Support newsletter https://www.cancersupportcommunity.org/blog/2020/03/what-cancer-patients-survivors-and-caregivers-need?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=576d8757-f0c7-42cc-a79e-98691080f120 To me it was very helpful. There are a lot of myths circulating about I think this article is…

Do you have something that tells people that you are a cancer patient? Bald head, big bandage, anyth
If so or even if not, have you found that people have treated you differently because of it? I had something new happen today. One of the things that I have had to get used to is I can't order at a drive-through window. It helps if you can actually talk into the little box. So I skip it often unless someone is riding with…

I just made reservations for some rooms for my family at a hotel near the hospital.
I was told they had specials for patients. After going through all the booking information and get to the end they add extra charges that offset the discount they just gave. I think it's a disgrace that they don't care about anything but the buck.

An ad comes on TV for a new drug. It describes what it's for and how it will help you.
At the end of the ad it says "do not take Verzinio if you are allergic to it or any of it's ingredients. That's fine, we don't need to be taking things we are allergic to. But how do you know if you are allergic to it or not? It's a NEW drug, presumably, not many people have taken it. And, I'm not a chemist so I don't know…

What Cancer Patients Need To Know About The Coronavirus - Today's blog post
The first fact to remember is that the worldwide coronavirus outbreak is a very fluid situation. Almost every day brings more news — more cases, new cases in another country, and more than a little bit of panic among many people. So gird yourself with some courage and self-restraint. You don’t need a month's worth of…

Our blog post today dispels some of the common myths about leukemia and lymphoma
There are many, it seems like every day I see things posted about these two diagnoses. Granted, there is a LOT of information about the hundreds of different types of cancer, so we don't hold it against anyone for not knowing it all. But some of these things get repeated over and over. Our blog post today is meant to be an…

Procedure or Surgery | 6/5/2014 Emergency Surgery to remove hernia mesh- Unskilled and unethical Dr
After CT scan confirming obstruction and naso stomach tube was placed to relieve the fluid accumulation Dr Samuel Szomstein had to do an emergency surgery to remove the mesh that he had implanted. Not only did he cause the problem but it also took over 6 month for the incision to heal with continuous suppuration. I also…

Procedure or Surgery | 5/27/2014 Hernia Surgery
Since after a year my PSA was still 0 and had minimal side effects, and my bone scan and CT scans were negative I decided to take care of an inguinal and an umbilical hernia. Went to see Dr Samuel Szomstein who assure me he has done this many times and should be simple surgery. Big mistake! He decided to try a new type of…
