Has anyone had a personal experience related to coronarvirus yet?

I know we hear about coronarvirus endlessly and some are sick of the seemingly never ending news stream but has it touched anyone personally? As of today I am banned from my mother's skilled nursing facility. I have bronchitis. I have a cough, the sniffles and fatigue mostly from lack of sleep. I have seen my doctor, am on medication and have been declared non contagious. I do NOT have fever or breathing difficulty. But.....because I have "smptoms" I am not allowed in the building. I totally I understand and will accede to their wishes.
I've mentioned before I swim at our local college 3 afternoons a week. There are 4 colleges and universities locally. As of tonight they will all be closed down. No more swimming until further notice. This activity is very important to me as a pain free form of exercise. I (and my aching body)will miss this alot.
So, has this pandemic touched any of you?

I was on a road trip for 2 weeks. The day after I got home I came down with what I believe to be a cold. I have not had a fever and that is why I think it is a cold. As a precaution, I have used "social distance" procedures to be sure I do not encounter others for the last 5 days. I live in a community for active retirees. I have a few neighbors with underlying health issues, like your bronchitis, that make it more likely they would have serious problems if they were to get the coronavirus. Although I would prefer to be "out and about" I am willing to take these precautions for the health of my neighbors.0

Not yet, but listening to the news this afternoon makes me think that more and more of us are going to have our lives totally disrupted from the scare. I just hope that these very aggressive tactics will be enough to contain the virus ASAP.0

Until I am tested, I simply won't know. Some of us are going to be surprised when our test results return.0

A close friend’s daughter was in Italy (Florence) for a month-long cooking class. She had to come home today after two weeks, as she feared she wouldn’t be able to leave if she didn’t come home now. I haven’t spoken with my friend to see if her daughter had any difficulty getting into the States.
I just learned her daughter is home.0 -
I wouldn't call it "the scare," but rather a proactive abundance of caution. This is no hoax--it is very, very real.0

A young friend is living in Italy where her husband is stationed with the Army. She is a clinical social worker on base and has had to take her baby to work for the past 3 weeks bc all the schools and day care centers have been closed. Apparently most things are closed there.0

I have a friend who was released from the hospital the day before the first fatality was admitted. He had been in the hospital for brain surgery due to a fall. I am glad that he is confined to his home with home health services coming in 3 times a week. I fear that these services might be cancelled as the medical community is hit harder. Yesterday all church services were cancelled until further notice. That was quite devastating to me. I am aware that God does not live in a church, But the Bible does say when two or more are gathered in my name, I am among them. I very much miss communal worship. I recognize that this was a very wise move as our Pastor has ALS, Since the announcement of the first death I have spent many hours in prayer

As I was driving to a doctor appointment this morning, wondering if I would be allowed in (I was), "We Are The World" came on the car radio. I started to tear up. This pandemic is NOT an inconvenience. It is a world wide crisis that is gaining momentum and everything possible must be done to slow it down.
"There comes a time
When we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING
It's time to lend a hand"
"There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives! "
I'm not allowed to visit my mother because I have two of the symptoms on the checklist. Even though I have a doctor sanctioned explanation as to why I have those symptons. It's a necessary precaution and I accept it. Nursing homes are one of the most dangerous places to be right now. I accept a little disruption to hopefully keep my mother (and all the other residents) alive.0 -
Bengal, I see you live in New York State. I want to say you are lucky because I think you have a very smart governor, like our governor here in Washington. It had been nearly three weeks since we had the first fatality and the governor declared a state of emergency. It seems like three years. It was a horrible shock when I saw pictures of the same hospital where my friend had been hospitalized only two days before. Since then things have been shutting down like lights blinking out in a wind storm. First the shut downs were voluntary then they became mandatory first Seattle began shutting down then Tacoma now Olympia is shutting down. My church is shut down. And this morning the library system announced a three step program of shutting down.0

BoiseB, I’m in NYC and agree about our Governor Cuomo. I feel a bit safer because he is being very proactive. As you know, he called for the National Guard to help us in New Rochelle, a NYC suburb, where 105 cases were confirmed (I looked this up). So far, the NYC public schools remain open, as do the subways. The St. Patrick’s Day parade has been cancelled, for the first time in 250 years. Cuomo is calling for more testing kits and asked for 28 more private labs to begin testing, but the labs must first receive federal approval before testing. I’m glad we here have a state government that is competent, since we can no longer rely on the federal government to know what it’s doing.
It’s scary and saddening, for all people.0 -
I live in Northern New York, about as far away from NYC as one can get and still be in NYS. We feel pretty safe up here but all it takes is ONE exposed person to set off a chain reaction . I wholeheartedly approve of all the precautions being put into place. I've read about New Rochelle and my thoughts go out to you and your neighbors Carool.0

Bengal, thank you. And same to you and your neighbors.0

Alumnae weekend has been cancelled at my old Alma Mater - a bunch of us were going to get together for ole time sake.
I go to Silver Sneakers and I won't be surprised if they don't cancel it. We have a state university, and I won't be surprised if they extend spring break.0 -
I live in the country & shop in a small town nearby.
This is a VERY minor problem compared to what some of the rest of you have gone through.
We went to the grocery today, many shelves were empty-- no toilet paper at all, no hand sanitiser, very low supplies of dried beans, rice, and for some reason, cheese! Stocked shelves had plenty of milk, bread, and meats & produce.
So, better get a supply of T.P. in house!

Toilet paper is one thing that I back stock on. But that is because I am a sale and coupon shopper so if toilet paper shows up on sale of I have a coupon I purchase if my supply is 1/2 gone. I have my groceries delivered and the Grocery chain delivers from a warehouse not the store itself. I saw an ad from one supermarket saying that they are rationing some items. A lot of the people here have earthquake stores, The delivery person told me that the stores get new supplies everyday it is not like an earthquake the supply lines are not broken0

The Coronavirus just came closer to me. My handicapped brother was in contact with a person who was in close contact with the first Covid19 case in Idaho.0

I have not had any connection to the virus itself. However, I work in a school, and I now have 2 weeks off from work. On Thursday, the governor in PA closed down all the schools in the county where I live. We have the most cases in the state. Yesterday, he mandated that all of the schools in the state be closed down, also. For the past 2 weeks, my son-in-law has been in Poland for work. He was fortunate enough to get out before they closed their borders. His employer informed him that he will now be self quarantined for 2 weeks at home. I hope for all of us that 2 weeks is enough, but I have my doubts.0

The world is so selfish and don't love and care for others like we are suppose to like God's Word tells us.
1 John 4:20 King James Version (KJV)
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Some need supplies /formula for their babies.I need toilet paper badly for my colon conditions/issues.And God knows what else. What a sad world we're in.But I'm saved ,so I'm not going to live in fear.I know where I'm going after leaving this world.0 -
I think I may be one of the people who is asymptomatic. My armpit on the side where lymph nodes were removed is swollen but I have no other sx of the virus or anything else. Every time I get sick that armpit swells so I am being very mindful.....staying home, not letting others visit, asking husband to stay across the room, etc. Also exercising like a mad woman trying to boost my immune system.0

BoiseB, I wish your brother good luck.
Dawsonsmom, I wish you all the best.
And same to all WhatNexters.0 -
@Dawsonsmom. I am so sad to hear this news.0
-
Thanks Carool and BoiseB. I still don’t feel sick but armpit remains swollen so still being proactive. Fingers crossed.0

Here in California, many places are closed including almost all of our schools. Today, our governor said that our schools may not reopen until the fall.0
