I just want you to know that everyone at WhatNext is pulling for you, praying for you, sending positive thoughts, and hoping we'll see you here again…

What gives you joy right now?
Between cancer and the pandemic, the future can look pretty bleak. What gives you joy during this rough season of unknowns? Mine is knitting and having Face Time with the grandkids. What's yours?

Do you have a hematologist?
A friend who went through cancer treatments before me asked what my hematologist has said. I don't have one and haven't heard anyone of my doctors suggest it. Is this a common thing?

Immune system & COVID-19
Apologies. I don’t know how to delete my previous post. My question is how long is your immune system considered compromised after BC treatment - lumpectomy, chemo and radiation in my case. I am a good 6 years post-diagnosis and treatment. So am I at higher risk for this Coronavirus or is my immune system back to normal?

Oh No | Just Diagnosed
I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago, but it is small (less than 2 cm) and early. It was not a huge shock because two of my mother’s sisters died of breast cancer. I have decided on bilateral mastectomy (not nipple-sparing). If pathology on lymph nodes is positive, I will also have radiation therapy. I am thankful that I…

I was just browsing through my billing at Vanderbilt and found my bill for my surgery on Jan 28.
My bill was 174,000.00 and my wonderful insurance appears to have paid 22K leaving us 152,000.00 to pay. No problem! Excuse me while I run out to the garden and dig up our coffee can. That's where we keep the "big" money.

Stage IV now
This has been hard to think, much less say. I found out Friday my cancer has spread, to liver, bones, lymph nodes and possibly pancreas (rare, but possible). I’m waiting for a pancreas biopsy to determine if pancreas is a new primary cancer or another bc secondary. Apparently treatment can’t be determined until they know…

-
Side Effects | Mouth sores
Did not have them until I recently got sick, January 2020. Thought to be a bi-product of a GVHD flare up. Diagnosed with Flu-B, not sure now if it wasn't COVID-19.
-
Side Effects | Nausea/Vomiting
Comes and goes with all treatments and with GVHD.

Side Effects | Weight loss
Nature of the beast, currently monitoring my intake and have had to change what I intake. I am now a vegetarian, as my body refuses red meat. Working my way to vegan, as I feel better eating this way.
-
Side Effects | High blood pressure (hypertension)
Being medicated presently, but it fluxuates. My script fluxuates according.
-
Side Effects | Fatigue (tiredness)
Neverending, you learn to live with it. However, there are times of extreme fatigue and other times when it is so minimal you think you are finally back to normal.
-
Side Effects | Depression/Anxiety
Both come and go, I think it is part of the cancer itself. I have found Xanax (only when needed), deep breathing, Reiki and meditation work wonders.
-

Seeking treatment for this presently, I put it off for far it long. It is real.

Changes depending on treatment types and the GVHD flare ups.
-
Radiation | External radiation
The actual radiation procedure was rather painless, just tedious. The initial and long term side effects left much to me desired. A year or so out, I have little to no negative effects from the full body radiation.

Neuropathy in tongue
Has anyone experienced neuropathy in their tongue. I don’t remember this from my first round of chemo, but it seems like I have some now as well as my hands and feet.
