So to follow up on MarcieB's post about a good laugh... What TV show or movie do you watch when you want a good laugh? I think we can all use some suggestions right about now. I can't think of anything that really cracks me up but Frasier does make me laugh.

    We love Big Bang Theory. It's so funny. My kids got me to watch it during treatment and it really helped back then.
    And in this crazy time, I'm back to recording the show and watching it when I need a laugh or two. Even my husband laughs with this show.

    Movies: Arthur, My Cousin Vinny, Heaven Can Wait (the Warren Beatty one), Clueless, Bringing Down the House, Soapdish, Razing Arizona, Annie Hall, Death at a Funeral (the English version), First Wives Club, Best in Show, Men in Black, Big. Some are to me funnier than others, but I love them all.

    TV: Monk. Many others, I’m sure, but Monk stands out in my head.

    I also love Big Bang Theory. Can watch it over and over. I also enjoy the spin off, Young Sheldon. I watch Modern Family, Fraser, when I can find it, and lately have been watching old Andy Griffith reruns. Don't like the way they portray Appalachian Mountain people but way back in the 50's it was acceptable. I do like a few of the newer shows; The Neighborhood and Bob Loves Abishola can usually get a chuckle out of me. But what I'm really a sucker for are the old 1950's and 60's Westerns. Maverick, Wagon Train, Have Gun, Will Travel, Gunsmoke, etc..... They maybe don't make me laugh but it is a form of escapism back to a different era.

    Rising Arizona! Another flash from the past, Carool. I love that movie but haven't seen it in years.

    Bengal, same here. And that’s the only Coen Brothers movie I like.

    I like all of the old comedy shows, it seems like there aren't as many on as there used to be. More crime drama, police drama, type shows on now. I put Donna through enduring 4 hours of Live PD on Friday and Saturday. We (mainly me) like the informative shows like HOw's it made, or the history shows about abandoned buildings and forts, DIY, HGTV, and whatever music shows are on. We have Dishnetwork with about 5000 channels, and we are always complaining that there's nothing on.

    As for comedy, I can't think of any that I can't wait to see each week. We did watch the big bang theory usually.

    Mysteries of the Abandoned! That is so interesting. I thought I was the only person who watched it. I love all that historical stuff about the unexplained and mysterious. Any Mystery of Oak Island fans?

    While not things to watch, I love listening to stories by Jeanne Robertson. She is a speaker, somewhat a comedienne but she's not "comedy club" raw and foul mouthed. She was once, years ago, a contestant in Miss America. She is really funny and I love her stories. I think it's because she is a vintage southern lady.
    A few of my favorite stories are "A Mother's Revenge- Red Porsche" and "Bungee Jumping." I will post another in an update.

    For me TV shows that are guaranteed to make me laugh, are Cheers, the Sam and Diane years and MASH. I also enjoy the revamped game shows that are on now. The responses are usually very funny. I can't think of any recent movies that made me laugh, but the older ones like Goonies and My Cousin Vinny still make me laugh, even if I just think about them. Thank goodness for Netflix.

    @Bengal - my husband faithfully watches Mysteries of Oak Island and I think he watches Mysteries of the Abandoned, too (not 100% sure about that one).

    @TeacherTina, I have friends who were on Family Feud. They were even brought back a few years later to be contestants again. I have yet to see the episodes they were on, but apparently they were really entertaining! (And, knowing her and her husband, I don't doubt that for a moment!) They are the Holcomb family. (My husband and I go on kicks of watching reruns of that show and you're right - they are really entertaining! I am a Steve Harvey fan.)

    For me, the go to shows are the older ones like Little House, Waltons, Andy Griffith, the Flintstones, ALF, Happy Days, and other TV classics that are light and hard to come by these days. HUGS and God bless.

    Yes! Boston Legal. Loved that show. So well written. It covered controversial subjects and managed to be incredibly funny at the same time. Loved the interplay between William Shatner's character and the other guy who's name I cannot think of right now. I think my sister has it on disc. Hmmmm. May have to borrow that.

    Totally silly, but I LOVE Laverne and Shirley. Love them! I am also a fan of the Waltons when I want to live (in my head) in a simpler time. And I haven't thought about Razing Arizona in a long time - now I think I need to track it down! Thanks for the memories jogs about some of these shows!

    Hi Bug! I always loved Big Bang Theory but that is now off the air. So, I will stream Jim Gaffigan, he's a stand up if you've never heard of him. Hilarious. I watched the new Space Force with Steve Carrell, it was funny. Jerry Seinfeld has a new stand up that is real good.

    @banditwalker, thanks for mentioning Seinfeld. I forgot about his old show. Sometimes it’s silly, but still funny.

    Seinfeld also has a series called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Almost all of his guests have been comedians - he made a couple of exceptions - and they drive around in cool cars (some vintage, some not). Then they stop for a cup of coffee or a meal. It's not like it's roll-on-the-floor hilarious but it's a funny escape.

    Bug, seen all of them. Depends on who the guest is but Julia Louis Dreyfuss was great, as was Sarah Silverman, John Levy, oh the list goes on.

    I’ll add the movie “Birdcage,” which I saw again last night. Great cast and very funny.

    I loved Birdcage!! Thanks for reminding me, Carool, I will add that to my list. I have been wondering how you are doing? The mobs in the streets there look so scary, I am hoping you are far away from all that?

    Marcie, I’m glad I saw and posted it. Thank you. Actually, we’re about five blocks from a main Brooklyn site of the demonstrations: Cadman Plaza Park, where George Floyd’s brother spoke yesterday afternoon. And my neighborhood (Brooklyn Heights) is near the Brooklyn Bridge entrance/exit, through which marchers came to demonstrate in another Brooklyn neighborhood not far from me. I think that it’s necessary to protest peacefully for immediate changes (and long-term changes as well) in police training and culture and societal changes in general; however, the vandalism and the looting are terrible and hurt the neighborhood residents.

    We here are staying home. I worry about the demonstrators getting and spreading the virus, now that our caseload and death toll here has diminished so much.

    I couldn't agree more about peaceful protest, so much needs to change. The protest part is fine with me (I think it is with most people), but it breaks my heart to see the looting and violence happen. It sounds like it is pretty close to you, you must hear the noise from it? Funny thing - Detroit, which is definitely a big part of Black Lives Matter, is pretty chill. My theory is it is because of the past 1967 riots. I know that was a long time ago, but the truth is; Detroit never fully recovered from it. Landmarks were ruined and are overgrown now and there are still gutted foundations of buildings that couldn't come back. Lots of scars in the city. I honestly think it affected most residents in one way or another and they don't want to go through it again.

    Carool, it must be interesting to be so close to these historical events. I live out in the country so it all seems rather surreal from this vantage point. I certainly stand behind the protesters but it's too bad there are always the bad apples who have to spoil it for the peaceful demonstrators. I too fear that all the people gathering will lead to another spike in Covid19 cases. Such an unfortunate complication for citizens exercising there 1st Amendment rights.

    I thought of a movie I love and can watch over and over; School of Rock with Jack Black.

    Marcie, I so agree re rioting and its effects on the areas in which they took place. And I’m hoping that those protesting the murders of black men and women will follow up by voting.

    No, the protests are too far away from me to hear. Also, we often keep our sound machine on, to cover noises during our erratic sleep schedules. But even when the machine is off we don’t hear the demos.

    Bengal, I so agree. And, yes, it’s interesting, but in the sense of the Chinese curse: “May you live in interesting times.” THIS old woman would prefer to be further away from all of these necessary protests. If I were young now I’d probably be out there with them (been there, done lots of that in the late 1960s/early 1970s). And if there weren’t a pandemic, maybe I’d be in one protest. Not now, however.

    Me too Carool-- I'm too tired & can't walk (Or run) anymore to protest & march like back in the good old days.
    I did a lot of animal rights protests as well as anti-war & such. Too bad cancer & medical as well as age issues have taken away that from us.

    Speaking of funny stuff-- where's Abbie Hoffman when we need his sense of humor & street theater?
    I know-- he's on a cloud looking down & cheering all the young kids on!
