Tuesday's question - am I the only covid slob?

We are vaccinated and my husband's son, who has been working in Ukraine for the past two years is coming to visit with his family. I am very excited to see them because there are three grandchildren coming, ages 10,8, and 7. - which I plan to HUG! So...I am digging out my spare bedroom which became a total mess during the past year, since no one came to use it. Did anyone else allow this pandemic to give them permission to be lazy? I have to be ready for 5 extra people in my house, and I am out of *hostess practice.* Yikes! (pass the vacuum and feather dusters please)

Girl. you are most definitely NOT the only COVID slob. I have a huge pile of clothes on the floor in my "office." I need to get them photographed and up on Facebook Marketplace or ThreadUp or something.
There are quite a few things I let go considering the year of COVID was basically the year of recovery for me. So the first few months of COVID, I had restrictions on what I could lift and other things.
But I am having to dig out too.0 -
Count me in! I won’t even talk about my apartment, but I’ll focus on my attire. I’ve never loved clothing (after my teen years), but now I’m down to a few pairs of jeans and a few blouses/shirts. I’m meeting a friend at a museum show on Thursday and I’ll look like a ragamuffin. Oh, and my hair! I’m not going there.0

No, you sure are not the only one. I had grandiose plans when the lockdown started. Not only was I going to clean my house from top to bottom, I was going to totally declutter to get it ready to sell. However, I spent most days sitting and watching TV. I am not even going to mention the weight that I gained. I can procrastinate with the best of them.0

beachbum, I think most people got that *de-clutter bug!* It hit my husband, big time. He spent weeks de-cluttering our basement. So now, when I am trying to de-clutter the upstairs bedrooms, and there are boxes of old photos or books, or outgrown clothes, I can't just pack them up and store them in the basement because my husband would freak out! finding new homes for everything, or decided to toss...it takes forever! What good is a basement if you can't hide stuff there, anyway?
legaljen, you got a double whammy with Covid making it's appearance as you are trying to recover. but I am impressed that you know your way around FB Marketplace. I have just recently discovered that.
Carool, jeans are my preferred attire, and the main thing is - you are meeting a friend! Doesn't matter what you wear.
I think *hair issues* are a question for another day?0 -
Have to join you. Neglected house and read MANY books!!
So glad you get to see your grands! Get some food in the freezer so you don't have to spend that precious time cooking.0 -
My spare bedroom is not usable at the moment, either! I have been piling stuff in there for quite a while. Plus, MY preferred attire has been sweat pants and elastic waist capris. Even getting into jeans is a pain.0

I'm with all of you. Grandson visited last February, 2020 before the s**t hit the fan to help with grandpa who fell. The quilt that I had started was on the bed. Here it is May, 2021. He said he will visit in July. Grandson's room has become the sewing storage room. So you all are not alone. I think everyone has gotten the out of sight, out of mind syndrome. The bed got cleared so I could find the quilt & I'm happy to say I'm nearly half done with the top.0

Marcie, thank you, and you’re right about that. Yes, I’ll leave the hair worries for another time.
I got a kick out of everyone’s comments here.0 -
@Marcie, did you husband's de-cluttering bug actually get rid of stuff or did he just relocate the clutter? My father does that to my mom. My mom will store stuff and pack up the closets. My dad gets tired of it and "cleans out." Only, that means the "stuff" is now out in the open or has just been relocated.
I do get the de-clutter bug from time to time. Only I call it "purge fest." I just get tired of the clutter and start throwing away. I know when it's building up and it is usually when my life is piling up "stuff" around me. Throwing away is my "*** it all." I did a purge fest one time in my closet after asking my husband on numerous occasions to get rid of shorts and shirts he no longer wanted to keep. He kept saying "I need to clean out the closet." Well, he came home from golf and I had purged 50% of his stuff. I got rid of every shirt with a snag, a tiny hole, a rip, a stain. Nope, not even saved for "wear around the house." I got rid of shorts he had been holding on to since we got married 25 years ago. He knows better now. My husband can usually tell when it's about to happen and he will ask. I will tell him "Purgefest this weekend. Hide anything you said needed to go, but you really want to keep." He does it too. One big purgefest was enough to cure him. He either gets rid of stuff when he's tired of it, or he gets one week's notice before Purge Fest. And it's very random. And no, I don't just purge his stuff. I probably got rid of about 80% of my clothes the last go round. I had stuff I had been hanging on to for ages and I knew I was never going to put it on again so out it went. That's why the pile on my floor is so bad.
I feel one coming on by the end of this month. LOL0 -
legaljen: hahahahaha! I need to begin a monthly Purge Fest here! At least your husband has some advance notice.0

I think I am getting the Purge Fest bug! I am at a point with my cleaning/sorting that I am just over it - so I am tossing a LOT more.
You know what happened with all that basement stuff? It got re-located to our garage, and I mean it filled it right up, no room for cars. It was neatly arranged, but it was there - for almost a year. The pandemic came right before our church has a bi-annual rummage sale. So we usually go through things and save them for that event - which is EPIC in our community, believe me. Remember, originally they said we only needed to stay home two weeks to *flatten the curve,* (remember those days?) well, that was the two weeks Steve used to purge the basement and move EVERYTHING into the garage to be ready to transport to the church for the rummage sale. But, the rummage sale didn't happen - still hasn't happened (although I understand we are shooting for Sept). When friends or family come to our house we bring them in through the garage to our side door. So that meant, when anyone came over they walked through our stash of rummage sale stuff. We would say, "Feel free to take anything you like." and they would say things like, "Wait...you are giving away this teapot? these silk flowers? this basket?...etc" And they took them! We still had tons of stuff, but a place similar to Salvation Army opened and Steve loaded up our van (a few times) and took everything over there, so we have had our garage clear for a couple months now.
Right now I would like to save things for the *possible* rummage sale coming up in September, but my husband is ready to load it all up and take it to that place. It's just that...a rummage sale is more fun.0 -
MarcieB -- Where is the rummage sale place that opened up by you? We love to go to places like that, and usually go to the Salvation Army in Ann Arbor as it is pretty nice!0

The place is called Share House on Jackson? It has been operating for years, but was not accepting donations during the lock down time. It's pretty big and fun to browse. I have not been to the Salvation Army in Ann Arbor - it is probably organized better. There used to be a second hand store that I loved in that area by Plum market, but I am pretty sure is it shut down now. I found some great toys for my grandkids there.0

I got stir crazy and cleaned out drawers , closets, cabinets and then decided to remodel my dining room! I stripped wallpaper, repaired nail holes, speckled , sanded and painted it in a nice warm creamy color. Brightened up the room and my mood. Then I went online to order new decor, lighting and window treatment. All this was slow go for me and took most of January and February to do, but I wasn’t going anywhere with the pandemic, it kept me busy and feeling productive. We donated stuff to our local Goodwill store in NC. I like to shop there too, great deals!0

When the pandemic hit, my tag line should have become, "I'VE BEEN MEANING TO CALL PROCRASTINATOR'S ANNONYMUS, BUT I KEEP PUTTING IT OFF!" I spent more time watching TV and talking on the phone with other blind friends like some sort of teenager! I meant to learn how to use my semi-new computer, but I was putting that off too! As for hugging, I would never stop hugging my mother and sister, and I hugged two of my church friends once services resumed in June of last year. HUGS and God bless.0

ChildOfGod4570, funny! Never heard that one.
I’m too afraid to hug anyone but my partner. I’ll be getting together with friends in person inside, but no hugging. Except virtually hugging everyone here.0 -
I was a slob before COVID, so it's worse now. It seems that I pull myself up, and Wham-Bam-I'm back in my recliner, struggling to get out---If it's not one thing it's another.0
