So to keep things light- or to focus on the season- I was wondering about the favorite songs for certain people. I think we all have favorites and probably lots of different ones.
Some of my favorites are O Holy Night (it always brings tears to my eyes when the entire song is done); I'll Be Home for Christmas (mostly one of my faves because it reminds me of Christmases when my husband was active duty military); "We Need A Little Christmas" (always reminds me how much Christmas can cheer us up even in the midst of unimaginable loss; "Mary Did You Know?" (I just love that song); Silent Night; Joy to the World.

I'm a big fan of Bette Midler's "Cool Yule" album. And of course being from Florida I get a kick out of Jimmy Buffet's "Christmas Island" album.

Oh, where to begin?! Did you know that back in the 80's, John Denver did a special Christmas show with muppets? Oh yes! And the music soundtrack is wonderful. It is the first thing I listen to every year.

I also make it a point to google the old Bing Crosby/David Bowie duet of Little Drummer Boy. And I can't do a year without Peter, Paul, and Mary's *Light One Candle.*

It seems like every other year or so I discover a new *favorite* (to add to ALL the others!) Two years ado I discovered Rascal Flatt's version of Deck the Halls. I am not so much a country music fan, but I do like some of the crossover artists and Flatts is one of them. I love his confidence. I love how he just walks up to a mike and belts it out! (he makes me smile inside).Anyway, if you are a Christmas music/ 60's music fan, you REALLY need to hear this, it's such a surprise. (!)

I guess mine are very non-traditional. Paul McCartney- "Wonderful Christmas Time." Always a favorite, but "we're here and that's enough" works for me this year. Also, Kenny Loggins "Celebrate Me Home" for my far-flung family. (Makes me cry every time.)

    Ah, lots of great songs.

Marcie, I think the only one I am not at all familiar with is "Light One Candle." Yes, I do remember John Denver's Christmas special with the Muppets. Definitely a favorite. Speaking of Muppets- I watched Emmitt Otter's Jugband Christmas on ABC family the other night. It was always a favorite of mine and my brother's. He had his youngest watch it and she was like "Meh." I guess they have so much more technology and animation. To us, it was the best thing ever. And we were the only ones on the street with HBO so we had a watch party every year. I think we watched it every time it came on for the entire time it stayed around during December.

Ditmoll, I love both of the ones you mentioned as well.

Banditwalker, I heard Christmas Island so many times when we were in Key West on Christmas Eve last year- it's still ringing in my head. LOL Cute little song though.

Jen, Light One Candle is a song that tells the Hanukkah story, (the oil that kept the candles burning 7 days). I think you would like it. I have three good friends who are Jewish and I have learned a lot about the origins of my own faith from them. I am going to see if I can find a way to watch Emmitt Otter's Jugband Christmas, for sure! It's an animation? I love animation! I have a copy of Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol which REALLY dates me - my grandchildren have never even heard of mr Magoo. (But it's a charming piece of film, even if the animation tech was not the best)

White Christmas and the Christmas Song have always been favorites of mine. Now, when I am on my computer or doing work around the house, I turn to my TV for Christmas music 24/7. It's the channel where the shows and channels they are on are listed. From the 15th until the 26th it's all Christmas music and I love it. For the rest of the year, I wouldn't want to listen to it at all. The good thing about what I do now is easier than changing discs all the time.

legaljen1969, my husband and I loved Emmitt Otter's Jugband Christmas when it came out in the early 80's. I will have to see if I can find it on demand. I love all of the Christmas hymns that I grew up singing in church. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is the hardest one for me to hear, because it talks about all being together if the fates allow, I can't hear it without crying. I do love Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas.

Mary Did You Know is one of my favorites. Silent night also. I listen to Christmas music in the car wherever I go. In fact, my husband is playing relaxing Christmas music right now since I have a migraine.

For me the go to Christmas songs are "Light Of Christmas" by Owl City, "Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth" by Bing Crosby and David Boey, "Christ Is Come" by Big Daddy Weave, "This Is Christmas" by Kutless, and "Just A Girl" by Brandon Heath to name only a few! Merry Christmas! HUGS and God bless.

I mostly like the old time favorites - O Holy Night, Silent Night, Little Drummer Boy. I love Mary Did You Know ... awesome song and sentiment. I like a lot of the Christmas music ... my favorite time of year for music, I guess since we don't get to hear a lot of the songs except during December.

@LWC, I like the old time favorites too. Is your area really good about keeping the Christmas songs confined to December-or after Thanksgiving? We have two stations here that go to Christmas 24/7 the day after Halloween. LOL By the time Christmas Day comes, we are ready for it to be over for the next year. Plus, if you are one who plays the "Last Christmas" game- lots of us here get "Wham"ed early. LOL

I do love Christmas songs. I think I am going to have to go on overdose for the next few days. I am just not feeling Christmas-y this year. It's way worse than last year and I thought I was feeling pretty anxious then after just getting my diagnosis.

One that always makes me cry is “O Holy Night.” I’m secular Jewish; my partner and I always listen to Christmas music. That song is so beautiful, but I cry also because my mother died on December 21, 1980, and I associate that song in particular with her death.

beachbum5817, I also love one you mentioned: “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” And “The Christmas Song,” sung by Nat King Cole. And others.

I wear out my CDs of Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Tony Bennett at Christmas. And Y'all are right about Nat King Cole and The Christmas Song. A newer singer that is great also is Michael Bublé. Best wishes for a safe, healthy Holiday Season.

Hi @legaljen1969, I rarely listen to the radio now that I'm seldom in my car! So, if I listen at all, it is on YouTube or Prime Music or something like that. We have Sirius, but we never listen to it ... I don't think I'll renew it when it comes due. I'm really out of it - I never heard of the Last Christmas game.

@Carool, that's hard to have lost your mom so close to Christmas. My stepdad who I adored died on Christmas Eve ... many years ago ... that was a tough Christmas!! In fact, we didn't "celebrate" until after we had his funeral, which I think we held on 12/26.

One of my all-time favorite singers is David Phelps. We "attended" a virtual concert he did for Christmas and I have listened to that time after time after time! It has all of my favorites.

@LiveWithCancer, thank you. Well, it was forty years since she died (on December 21). Time does change the intensity of feelings. And I’m sorry that your stepdad died—especially on Christmas.
