Chip54...I saw you had recently been diagnosed with metastatic disease to the brain. I don't know if this is a single lesion or several. At any rate you will or should soon be referred to a radiation oncologist. If you have no more than 3-4 lesions they may be able to do stereotactic radiation, also known as cyber knife. It is very exact and leaves the normal brain tissue nearly unaffected. If there are multiple lesions they do whole brain treatments. This is also very effective and can buy you a good amount of time. I've known such people who have gone on for 3-5 yrs or more. I know of one who has had cyber knife off and on for 7 1/2 yrs...primary was lung Ca. So, this is not a death sentence. Depending on your specific pattern of mets you could do quite well. Also, know new treatments are coming out and, over time, you might be able to benefit from these. Your oncologist should be up on what's in the pipelines of the drug companies.
Good Luck !!

I work with someone who has hemangioma..... throughout her body. Her initial diagnosis was in the brain. She had surgery and radiation to the brain. That was about 10 years ago. She continues her fight, as it has spread all over her body. There is no cure for her type of cancer, just breaks in treatment. She has had experimental treatments, surgery, chemo, and radiation. She still works full-time, raises a family, and goes to the amusement park for Halloween every year! Best of luck to you.0July 2014

Dwayne Sims, MRI found 3 tumors on my brain, and was given less than a 20% chance to live, and probably would be 2 moths at best....that was nearly 5 years ago!! it's in remission in now!! Been given a second chance, and I cherish each n every day!!!0July 2014 -
