Closing In On Year 1 of Diagnosis

Today, I finally had my actual fitting for my post-surgical bra and prosthesis. I found out that my insurance will pay for me to have a custom prosthetic made, so I got scanned and measured for that today. I felt like things are finally moving forward.
Next Tuesday is my mammogram and the following Monday a meeting with my surgeon (who is the lead on my treatment team.)
I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous. I have a feeling I will cry whether she says we are in it for Round 2 or that I am okay. One will be tears of "Oh darn, not again." The other tears of joy. I don't know which one.
I am trying to be optimistic. I know that, compared to many, I got off light with my treatment and prognosis to date. I am very aware of the good fortune I have had so far. I pray daily for those enduring a more difficult journey. You have my thoughts, prayers and good wishes every single day.
I will keep you all posted.

It's called scanxiety and it's a real thing. A lot of us experience it. But you can do this. We will be with you in spirit. Yes, please keep us posted. Very best wishes to you.0

Being nervous is normal. I'm 14 years out and I'm still nervous with each scan done every three months. It's great that your insurance company came through for your custom prosthetic. Try to stay calm and let us know how everything goes for you.0

Congratulations on the one year!!! You hang in there, my friend!!! I think (praying) you'll be crying tears of joy!!

Wonderful that you now feel you are actually moving forward, there are so many ups and downs through treatment and recovery. Sending you good news Wishes when you see your surgeon and oodles of support.0

@Lynne-I-Am- I think most of the "moving forward" for me is that I am actually getting something done. I had surgery February 26th followed by 3 weeks of at home recovery and then I was straight back to work for a few days before the world shut down and COVID put the brakes on us all. Most of the things that start soon after surgery have been on the back burner for me since March. Thankfully I didn't require chemotherapy or radiation. I imagine I would be having quite a different experience. I just feel like I have been in "freeze" mode from a childhood game of freeze tag and someone finally unfroze me. LOL0

That’s great to get going with some positive action! The scanxiety never goes away. I too have had 14 years of scans and they haven’t all been great. Three times something had to be treated. The positive side of it is that things are caught early and dealt with quickly. I’m NED right now, but I know that can change anytime. Think of the scans as precautionary and celebrate every clean one. Think positive and keep us posted here! We are a great group of support and love!0

I really have a strong feeling you will be just fine. I have had two scans since my surgery and they tell me the results in about 15/20 minutes. I hope they do that for you, it is much easier to go into your doctor appointment knowing your mammogram was normal. You and I are on a similar path right now - gettin ourselves *evened up.* I have an appointment on the 9th for a *lift and balance* procedure on my right breast so I will be symmetrical, once again! I don't dread the surgery, but I have to have a covid test first...ugh!0

Congratulations! I can only echo what everyone else has said- scanxiety is a real and ever present thing. We live in the moment now - embrace it, enjoy it and celebrate that you've made it through a real ordeal.0

Congratulations! And good luck with your mammogram. I, too, have scanxiety l each mammogram and ultrasound (and even after appointments with my dentist or dermatologist). Over the years since I was diagnosed, I’ve had a few scares, but so far I’m okay. Please let us know how you are.0

Results were normal. I cried happy tears. Felt like a big idiot. But wow was I relieved. I’m already like “I know things could change later”
But I’m going to allow myself to feel relieved today.0 -
That's great news, legaljen! Good for you! Yes, allow yourself to feel relieved today. And celebrate this evening.0

Yay for good results! Relax and enjoy the upcoming holidays and the start of a new year without cancer! My next scan is Dec 2. Hope I’ll be celebrating with you!0
