MMarie, I want to thank you for posting the legal links on my post. The power of attorney for health care is done, but my husband has been feeling so awful since he finished treatment that there never seems to be a good time to discuss wills. Again thank you so much. The links were very helpful.

MMarie you are so right about the journey; I just read something beautiful about grief ---"Grief never ends...But it changes. It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith...It is the price of love." Author Unknown. Hope this helps in some small way. I, too, have had experiences with parents and know how very difficult it is. Take care

I know what you mean. I likened my journey to being in a kayak without a paddle in the rapids heading for the waterfall drop-off. I had one mastectomy and one reduced to match an implant but there was a missed tumor found in the reduction of the natural breast with only 1 mm margin and I had radiation; wanted to quit that series twice and they arm-twist you into finishing but now that's done and I can't have another implant once you've been radiated so I'm having what's left of the natural breast lopped off and the implant removed and go flat. I'm tired of it all. Should have had double to begin with but they assured me the other was fine but it wasn't. That was just 2012 and this year another lump. So I have more surgery scheduled in two weeks. The cancer sure is an elusive beast and we each have to make a choice but the doctors sway you. Just follow your heart on every bit of treatment you get and don't let them bulldog you

I should have put this pasted message on your wall to begin with. MMarie, I saw your post about what the doctors told you about it being cosmetic surgery to have a healthy breast removed. That isn't so. I don't know who the doctors and surgeons were, but according to my doctor the insurance company has to pay for BL mastectomies if a patient choses to do so. It is for health reasons and not for cosmetic reasons that we chose to do something like this. I chose a BL because I didn't want to take the chance of cancer showing up in the left breast and having it be invasive. I had non invasive DCIS stage 0 of the right breast and my radiologist missed a third spot in his report so my surgeon ordered a MRI. I am glad he did because there were two small clusters that were non cancerous in the left breast and had I of let it go it could have turned into cancer later and probably invasive. So I would check with your insurance company and tell them what you wanted and that you were denied and you want to know if they would have paid for a BL mastectomy. You still might be able to have the other breast removed if you are scared about it becoming cancer too. I don't know that is why I say check with your insurance company and if they say they would have paid then you can reem the doctors and surgeons a new one.

Welcome to the site. I think that you will find this a friendly place to come when you need to sound off or vent from anger. We are all here to listen and help, if we can, because at some point and time in each of our lives we have been in your situation. Please don't be afraid to ask questions either. No question on this site is silly or dumb. We all have questions we would like other opinions on or answers to. There are so many nice people here that it has helped me get through my fears I had when I was DX'd with DCIS. Good luck in the future.

Praying for you. I was diagnosed with DCIS 3 yrs. ago but was Stag I and Sentinel Node biopsy negative. Only had it in right breast. Never worried about breast cancer because it did not seem to run in my family. At the time I was diagnosed, I felt great and had lost weight by exercising and dieting. Very surprised at the diagnosis given to me after a mammogram. Have a upcoming mammogram to left side in Oct. and always scared of results.

Hi MMarie, I just responded to your question below about how fast things went for you. I was diagnosed just a week ago with the same kind as you. I am wondering if there is anything in particular you would have done differently as you look back, or that you wish you had known sooner? Hope all is going well for you now.
