I am a Mom who is taking care of my 30 year old son who is having his 2nd battle with testicular cancer that began has curable with 3 months of inpatient salvage chemo and then quickly went to terminal (he was first diagnosed at 19 as IIb and then had 8 years cancer free). He has been in clinical trials at Sloan and Norris after the initial chemo at UCSF. Still in a trial but his heart is now involved so things are not good.

Hi darling. I'm sorry to meet you this way. My son was an underground uranium miner-began when he was 18. When he was almost 20, he asked me to go to the trading post with him. He said, "I think that I have cancer in my nuts." I said -What? Mom I found a big lump in a nut. I said, "You don't have cancer. It's not cancer." He asked me why did I say that. I said, "Because you're too young. You don't have cancer." He said that he set up an exam with a local clinic, instead of waiting to get in to one of the state mining doctors. The union rep told him that.

By the time for the appointment, the lump was gone. The local clinic, and the state uranium mine medical staff ran a series of tests. Later the mines closed down. He passed the exam for the Coast Guard.

I'll never forget how I felt that day. It was as bad as knowing that my father had only a few weeks left. I feel for you because you feel that way every day.

If you want to talk to me-I'm up for it. I know how to cry for you, with you. If you want, we can kick the walls together.

Caregivers are my heroes. It is such a hard job, much harder then being a patient. I have been both, I found very difficult during my parents' final illnesses, and I had lots and lots of help my two sisters and their families as well as my DH &DD.

Sending healing vibes to you, your son and your entire family. .

Welcome to WhatNext. We are here to support you and answer any questions the best we can. It's often a scary time not knowing what the future holds. My husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 47 (last February) and it's been a long road, but it helps to have the support of others who have been there. Best Wishes and God Bless.
