SITE ANNOUNCEMENT: Content Ideas

Hello WhatNext! I wanted to pop in again and introduce myself for those that may not have been on in a while. My name is Colby and I'm the managing editor of a rare disease news website called Patient Worthy. I have stepped in to help with spam and moderating duties.
I wanted to say a special thank you to LegalJen and Carool for creating some discussion lately. LegalJen, I love the themed days of the week! I've been trying to think of how Patient Worthy might help out in this regard to keep the site active. We do cover some rare cancer content in our efforts. I wanted to put out some feelers to see what people think about me posting some of that here? I want to contribute to the discussion, but I certainly don't want to step on any toes. Let me know!
Also, a reminder that if you need assistance with any site issues or would like to report in my ongoing battle against spam, please contact me at colby @ patientworthy.com. (Just remove the spaces in that address when you contact.)

Thank you, ColbyR. I, for one, would love to see rare cancer content here (I read online about various rare cancers). Most content relating to cancer would be interesting and might draw in new people. I’m obsessed with cancer, unfortunately.
I hope you don’t mind my asking if you’ve posted anything on Instagram (or updated Facebook) re WN. I learned about WN from a Facebook post by WN. You’ve probably done all of this, so I apologize again for implying you didn’t.

Thanks, Carool! I don't have access to the social media accounts for WN at the moment, but I'll see if Patient Worthy can help out with that.0

Colby, I wonder if you can tell me why I no longer receive notice when someone responds to a question I have addressed? It is helpful to know when other answers come in to a question where I have responded and hope to hear other possible solutions. I have always been notified by email when there were additional answers to a question I followed, but as of last night, it stopped. Could I have inadvertently changed something in the settings of my home page? Or is this a new policy that we are not notified anymore?0

@Colby, I appreciate the "thank you," but the driving force between getting the discussion back up and running was MarcieB. She came up with the idea of the themed days and how we could all take some discussions. I took a few days and sort of steamrolled because I am a loudmouth and I love to chit chat. That's just how I am, but I am not by far the person who launched the effort to get things back to being more chatty.
I definitely see Marcie's point above- it doesn't seem like notifications are coming through when people follow certain questions. We definitely got notifications before when people responded to our questions. Maybe something has changed? If we need to reset something, please make a post so everyone knows how to do it.
I do think that posting some more about rare cancers and cancer related topics would draw people in. I really don't recall how I found this site, but I am so thankful I did. It has been my saving grace at many points throughout my journey.
Also, it would be great if something could be done to allow people to message privately. Sometimes people share an interest or have some other subject in common that is discovered in the thread of a post and then the thread veers off and becomes a conversation between those people. I know, because I am guilty of the veer off. If we post our email on someone else's wall, its out there for all to see. I know we can go in and block people from emails on our own.
I thought there had been some discussion a while back that there used to be a feature that allowed for private discussion or emailing, but it was taken away because it was misused/abused. I don't know how others feel- just something I have wondered.

Colby, thank you.
I, too, have stopped getting the notices of responses. In fact, that’s why I just came here, and now I see I’m not the only one with this problem.
Also, I like legaljen’s idea of being able to private message.
Thanks again.0 -
Thanks for the opportunity for input. My request: Please continue with the blog posts from letlifehappen. This is one of my favorite features on the site.
Thank you.0 -
Thank you everyone for your responses, especially about the reply notifications not coming through. I will pass that along. Can anyone recall when they first started noticing that notifications for responses weren't being sent?0

I just checked and the last day I received any notifications was Thursday, April 8th.0

Thank you, Marcie. So maybe a relatively recent event.0

ColbyR, thank you for getting us the notices!
Best,

Thanks Colby. Today was the first day that received notices and the daily digest. I have not received any in ages. This is the last thing that I read on April 9, so that is when my problem started.0
