Related to our current discussion on being a cancer survivor and the fact that I was admonished on another thread this morning to take continuing conversations to a more private place...my dysfunction birth family was terribly dysfunctional and no one looked out for anyone else. I was the youngest and only girl. I'm an incest survivor, a survivor of a dysfunction marriage that I left 29 years ago, several surgeries, cancer and numerous ongoing physical problems. Most of us are survivors of many things but that question did pertain to how we view our journey with cancer. I had a friend online who died if mets cancer and yet she never even knew she had cancer in the first place. I'm still confused by that one. I believe she died within a month of getting the mets diagnosis. So as far as those who have a family history of a certain type cancer attacking it beforehand (as the article referenced), I'm not so sure about that. But for sure, lots of interesting topics come up on WN. Have a good day.0August 2016

This isn't posting on your question
I found my own, and I mostly lucked out. All of the doctors say the samething online--I love my health network, I love my patients, I love NM-schooling and specialty. When I call the insurance reps that are supposed to help you get a doctor-they just give you a list of the ENTs or whatever that accept that insurance. They say call the offices-The kid out of high school and a medical tech school for making appt.s all say the doctor can cure cancer and mental illness. Sometimes it takes a few visits to realize the doctor can't treat very much, so the hunt starts again. I'm on my 2nd eye doctor-I like this one- I'm on my 4th dermatologist and I don't like him but he's a lot better than the other 3--he hacks and doesn't put in stitches-- fine but then he says--Why didn't I put in stitches?
Anyway-My ENT is great. The system has really good people at Urgent Care. I have an excellent PCP now-she knows how to read a thyriod test and she got my thyriod in range with her first adjustment. I'm on my 2nd ENT- at least he knows how to care for an old GI system, so --and he listens0August 2016 -
I want to apologize if I offended you by inappropriately assuming you believed in the Bible rather than Buddhism (I think). I don't know where my posts are, but someone else brought it to my attention. I would never want to push a religion or faith on you, but in my naive desire to make you feel better, I may have made a mistake. Sorry, Barbara0July 2016

Bad link can't send funny ha,ha, to you
OK---The old neighbors were nice young kids. They always had lots of people over. This one guy stayed with them for several weeks. About a 40 year old-shaved head slightly over weight Mexican. I'd say -Hi- He'd say -Hi- I'd go to work.--Whatever--
Then one day I was working in my roses, and the kids Pit Bull pup chomped on my hand-- Just a straight puncture, and he let go when I said-- Good dog. I went to the ER a few days later for an infection, and they contacted Animal Control. I went to the neighbor- and the VATO was there. I showed him my hand, and explained that Animal Control would be out the next week. He said-OK he understood- I was a very nice lady
The next morning about 5:30, there was a knock on our door. A loud knock. We got out of bed and ran to the door. NBC, CBS, and Telemundo were on our porch fighting and they wanted to interview us. We saw the SWAT team in my roses and trees. We said-- What? The TV people screamed- They are arresting the mass murderer next door. We screamed -What? and we slammed the doors. We were sleeping in ratty old clothes, our hair was standing up and sticky out all over-sleep in our eyes. The first thing my son said- We look like (H)ell. Why would they want to interview us looking like this? We ran to the back and saw- SWAT swarming our back yard.
We watched SWAT walk the VATO out to a police car and high 5 each other. SWAT came back and told us they arrested the mass murderer from Los Lunas. The TV crews were pounding on our door again- and they pounded on other doors.
My son said--I don't want to give an interview. The kids next door were so nice, and news people aren't truthful-just looking for evil. Later in the day, the neighbors came out, and they said the same thing-we had our hair combed by then. We all decided not to give an interview. About a week later, the TV news said-- What is going on in this neighborhood? Everybody is scared to give an interview--When we try to talk to anybody, they say- Those are good neighbors. What did those neighbors do to scare so many people?
OK- I went to work, and I said to everybody-You know that mass muderer from Los Lunas? He was next door and SWAT got him this morning. SWAT was in my roses and back yard. Everyone said---Oh see- which is local for -You liar, liar, liar pants on fire.
The next day I went to work again, and everybody said----MEYATI, they arrested the mass muderer, and he was in the house next door. I saw your roses and car. Tell us!!!
I told about the dog bite-the nice kids-Animal Control-They asked what he was like, and why didn't I recognize him-his face had been on TV everynight for several months. I told them he looked like half of the VATOS in Albuquerque--shaved head- middle-aged-Mexican- I asked them if a polite VATO moved in next door-and had a shaved head like 40,000 other men, was middle-aged like a third of the population-nobody had any tattoos-- would you think--Is he a murderer? Is he a serial killer? Is he a mass murderer? They all said--No--
Oh, he called 911 and turned himself in because the dog catcher was coming-- really. He was lying down on his stomach in the driveway with his ankles crossed, waiting for the police.
So, here is a funny story-true but funny.0July 2016 -
Hi BoiseB,
I'm responding to your question on Sallyoung's post.
Pelvic Extenteration is a radical surgery which removes all of the organs of the pelvis - bladder, rectum, etc. It means permanent colostomy & urinary diversion. Sounds horrific to me - that's why I responded with alarm to Sallyoung's posting/question.0July 2016 -
Okay, color me dumb, but I feel my teeth and roots of my teeth under my bone. Could you have a tooth problem? My dentist 8 years after my chemo stopped actually apologized for not realizing what chemo does to teeth and taking action... He's not my dentist anymore....0July 2016

Read your comnent about factory farming and totally agree. Please look into something called "nutritional yeast". People used it as a vitamin before pills and weird fillers were invented. Hope your garden does well this year, assuming you will have one. Do you use rock dust as a soil amendment? Best wishes0June 2016

Thank you for responding...The last couple of days have been really tough. My husband has been extremely weak and suffering from mouth sores which is just one more thing to impede his appetite. Today has been a little better.0June 2016

The Dog Head Fire was started by humans. At least the temps haven't gone over 106, so the FFs here aren't in such distress as FFs in AZ and CA. The fire doubled back on itself, SE, so a lot went out. They still don't consider it contained. If the wind turns to the North again, it won't be good. I guess that I'm glad that NBC finally considers NM as part of the US. I was looking at the heat maps, and the Sonora and Chihuahua deserts are cooler than the American SouthWest. What a bummer. I'm glad those poor people aren't roasting in 120+0June 2016

Hi, Dog Head is burning down a ranch that we used to be on. The Gov is trying to get everybody to evacuate, but so many people won't--Idiots. One family-2 adults waited til they were really scared and they bragged that it took them 3 hours to load up a dozen goats, several dogs, and some clothes--IDIOTS--As the Governor and sheriff says-- This is a major fire--leave and don't risk the lives of first responders. No, we're going to ride it out---It's not a hurricane--- I'm glad the Lundey's are long dead-were in their late 60s decades ago- he was a real cowboy/rancher. he would have loaded up his ropers, and necessary breeding stock, got his them and his wife out of there-and then fought the fire.0June 2016

Hi BoiseB, I have not checked in for some time. How are you and how's that Idaho weather been?0June 2016

Thank you BoiseB - everyone seems to be of same opinion. I have appt. with radiation onco soon and he takes more time so I may get some clarification there. At the moment I feel great, don't feel sick and can eat anything so I am concentrating on that.0June 2016

Hi BoiseB - thanks for your comments Joined hoping to find out what sort of treatment other patients had with similar problems. Onco stunned me as I have been feeling so good with no symptoms. Will seek out second opinion when I gather info. I did not have surgery.0May 2016

Hi Boise.. Saw your post about muscle spasms, so wanted to mention that they are normally/typically caused (not withstanding disease causes of course), by a lack of magnesium and/or potassium (which you can easily/cheaply ingest as food, drinks, supplements; and/or absorb by soaking in /spraying on Epsom salt water (very inexpensively).
Of course the ideal way to get all nutrients is via a healthful diet & fortifying beverages, (but not always easy/possible during illness, disease, treatment etc).
Muscle (especially leg) spasms/cramps at night (and RLS, restless leg syndrome) is the most common sign/symptom of serious electrolyte imbalance; usually indicating a dire lack of Magnesium and/or Potassium (and/or water). Fortunately this is most easily remedied by eating 1/2 to 1 banana per day, and drinking sufficient water (8 oz water AND adding another cup of water for every caffeinated beverage you consume [to counteract caffeine diuretic properties]). Banana "substitutes" include rice/wheat /brans, nuts & seeds, yogurt, citrus fruits, cranberrys/cherries/juices, pears, apples, white/navy beans, dark leafy greens, baked potato with skins, dried apricots, squash, fish, avocado, mushrooms. Better yet, here's a more complete list: http://nutritiondata.self.com/foods-000122120118123000000-w.html
Be aware that Magnesium Calcium, Potassium (and Zinc to a lesser extent) must all stay in equal balance for a proper electrolyte balance; too much/little of one, will throw the others out of whack (esp when you are in a diseased state)!
Their primary functions: Calcium contracts muscles; Magnesium release contracted muscles; Potassium (and Zinc) transmits nerve signals telling muscles when to contract/release (and also maintains the water levels/transfers in the tissues so they can work properly & smoothly); so it's very important to keep ingesting these 3 nutrients in particular!
For an instant High-dose Magnesium Treatment you can drink 2 tbsp of Epsoms salts in 8 oz water/lemonade, but BEWARE it's a very strong laxative (great for QUICKLY PURGING/cleaning your bowels/entire digestive system thoroughly; and for alkalizing & your body, and more), but not so great tasting! (Drinking with a straw while pinching your nose helps). A glass of apple juice/cran-apple for a few days will have very similar beneficial effects, but is very high in sugar, and has less much less Mag, but lots more Potassium.
I hope this helps you/someone!0May 2016 -
Thank you for the post. My dad who is almost 80 will be starting treatment for a tumor in his esophagus very soon. I'm looking forward to hearing other survivor stories and learning how I can help him get through this.0May 2016

Wow! Happy belated birthday. Hope it was a really good one. I came to thank you for your words defending my right to have an opinion in the forum but getting to wish you a happy birthday is an unexpected bonus. You are a very sweet person, BoiseB. I am sorry you needed such a terrible fight https://www.change.org/p to stick around but I am glad you are around to get to know.0April 2016

Hi BoiseB ... How are you? Hope today is a good one for you! I want to try to explain that Passover is only secondarily about freedom. The thing which makes the holiday special and most important amongst a whole lot of others is that the people celebrated a miracle they were expecting rather than commemorating. It was an act of faith and trust in the Lord that the Lord would perform exactly as they had been told to expect.0April 2016

I have a dead link for your question
WIND-DUST STORMS-BLIZZARDS-FOREST and PRAIRIE WIND SWEPT FIRES (8)-WIND and more WIND. WIND THAT BLOWS TREES DOWN. WIND THAT BLOWS CARS AND TRUCKS OFF OF THE ROAD. They test robots and outer space equipment for MARS here because of the extreme temps.
This state borders Mexico----One day last week- WE had Snow, ICE from the early morning, WIND that knocked down trees-by 5 PM, here in Albuquerque, we had the patio door open to enjoy the evening. The next, day ice in the morning, an afternoon wind-30 mph and up a pleasant evening. WIND----It's not just North- it is also altitude--Even the state of Chihuahua shares this weather.0April 2016 -
Boise-- what is the address you used to contact those people about their ad------I'd like to tell them that their ad is horrible because I have been told all of those things- and the cancer site is on my face, so I can't escape it at all.0April 2016

Thanks for your GREAT and informative response! I have not until now, had the opportunity to join a support group, due to the other diagnosis (double diagnosis of ovarian cancer...we just conducted another scan and the cancer has dissipated! But, I still have to have surgery to remove the ovaries..the tumors are quite large @ 9cm on both sides...imagine having a double diagnosis of Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma/Pheo AND ovarian cancer! So that surgery I have postponed for May 18th..I have the Right Adrenal removed by THE BEST surgeon (Director of the Urology and Cancer Institute @ Cedars-Sinai in Beverly Hills!)....he is not only kind, interactive on-line, is very compassionate with his patients like me...He saved my life as the 'second opinion' where another team of doctors were going to literally 'mutilate' me and who put me in danger prior to the surgery...they mis-diagnosed me with a bipolar disorder as well...which took me to a point of fighting with the Heads of Administration and my Insurance company to call 'FOUL PLAY'...and I PROVED MY CASE and the Insurance Company signed (per my demand) a Special Letter of Intent to go outside the Insurance Company's coverage for MY CHOICE OF HOSPITAL AND DOCTOR @ Cedars-Sijna9i! My Doctor recognized this and WAS SO IMPRESSED with WHAT I accomplished that, he immediately bounced into action and first placed me IMMEDIATELY on BETA blockers until he personally performed the surgery! He had the DREAM TEAM on my case...The Head of Cardiology and his 2 Assistant Physicians! OH MY GOD!!! The most EXCELLENT and COMPASSIONATE bedside manner....they treated me like a QUEEN...and, told me after the surgery how AWESOME I was in surgery and post-surgery! I could have died under the care of the other hospital! He teaches doctors around the country and at the Univ of Chicago his Invasive Robotic Surgical Technique! I can talk to him just about ANYTHING! And, I have his direct number to call upon him...However, I a bit 'reluctant' to have this up-coming surgery...because I am trying to put my personal life back in order and it's VERY TOUGH! I am a bit depressed on energy BUT!@ I've been a world-class athlete (World-Champion in Water Sports & formerly with the SF Ballet)...so I know what to do homeopathically, spiritually and physically....as I also used to teach...but! I am a bit 'low' right now... and need to find a way to LIFT UP@@[email redacted]@!!! So...I'm not so bad off...I don't have to take chemo...but there is a documented and profound incidence of recurrence....HOWEVER, after reading all that I have...IT COMES DOWN TO MY ATTITUTE AND OUTLOOK at this point....I wrote an article for Fitness Magazine and LA Times which was a feature story about my success in water sports: "NEVER GIVE UP...ALWAYS REALIZE YOUR DREAMS".... I need to revisit that mindset RIGHT NOW! Thanks for your feedback! God Bless... - See more at: https://www.whatnext.com/wall_posts/889410/feed_item?hide_more=true&utm_campaign=Notify&utm_content=Vote#sthash.Vu5yanXH.dpuf0March 2016

Hi, BoiseB. I just saw your post about your February 17 surgery and another post where you said it went fine. Gosh, that sounded pretty serious. How are you doing these days?0March 2016

Tried to post on your last thread but wouldn't let me post it.:
Boise B, Hi, Are you getting B-12 shots? My onc said I didn't need them cause bloodwork didn't show anemia but they've made me feel better along with sublingual in between. I eat more after getting them. How about eggs, avocados and berries and fruit with local honey? All those go down easy for me. Never knew the joy of a slice of avocado plain til this started. I started using unrefined organic coconut oil too. Hoping you can get some weight on before you lose that tata weight. Lori0March 2016
