coming weeks

Hello, WhatNexters!I am writing for the purpose of starting a new thread, since my *Vertigo* question has become quite lengthy. And we are talking about all kinds of things (as we should), so I thought we might need a new place to talk?
.
Tomorrow my 11 year old granddaughter (from Texas) is coming to stay with us for a week. Then she will be joined by her mother and sister for another week. So the next two weeks are going to be busy for me and I don't know how many chances I will get to check in? Now that we have a working site to talk to each other again, (YAY!), I just wanted you to know I am not MIA - I just have a distracting two weeks coming up.
So what is coming up for all of you now that most restrictions are lifted? Can anyone afford to go anywhere with the current price of gas? (ugh). The thing I most hope for is that Geanne can get her operation on the schedule ASAP!

I hope you have a wonderful visit with your granddaughter and the rest of the crew, MarcieB. You'll have to tell us about it after they leave.
Yes, hopefully, Geannie can get her surgery soon. Fingers crossed.
The most important thing I'm doing is planning my husband's Celebration of Life. Other than that I'm trying to get back into an exercise schedule and just trying to keep up with things in general.0 -
Nothing special planned. Getting new eyeglasses and an electric fan. Have one work in a big show in gallery in Newark, but I won’t go to the opening.
MarcieB, have a great visit.
Bug, good luck with the planning of the memorial.

MarcieB, I think it is wonderful that you will get to have your granddaughter all to yourself for a week. You will make lots of new memories for both of you.
Bug, I don't envy you. Planning a Celebration of Life is not easy. We did my husband's right away. My children did most of it, as I was still pretty much in a daze. I know you will do a great job with it.
Carool, how exciting that you are getting to show your artwork. Do you have picture of the piece that you could share with us?
As for my week, I am getting my house ready for my daughter, son-in-law, and 2 year old grandson to come live with me. They will be here next week. I am not sure how long they will be here, and I am ok with that. It will be so nice to have someone else in the house again.
I hope everyone has a great week.0 -
I just saw Geanne post on the old "Vertigo" thread and she reported that she will be having her surgery today after all! I know we all wish the best for her, I will be anxious to hear from her once this is behind her.
Carool, it is very exciting to have your work shown! Why aren't you going?
Bug, I know it is emotional to prepare for your husband's life celebration, but everything is painful right now, anyway. This event can be very healing and that is my wish for you.
Oh, my goodness, Beachbum, having a 2 year old in the house can be crazy! And not always that good kind of crazy - but most of the time it is. ;-)
Enjoy it, they grow so fast, but we ALL know that.0 -

I feel as though I know you as friends, most of you have been in since way back, hanging in with good advice, helpful tips and lots of compassion. Thank you
No big plans but today is my last day of radiation. Son and his wife coming up tomorrow to celebrate. Cheers to all.0 -
Judith, the last day of radiation is a HUGE deal! I am so glad it is all behind you. Tell me if they want you to ring a bell? They told me it was a tradition to ring a bell when treatment was complete, so I did...and a few techs who were with me applauded. My husband was upset that he wasn't there, but I always went to the radiation treatments by myself, and I didn't know about the bell. So, to celebrate we went out for frozen yogurt and came home and rang the chain of sleigh bells which I put on our door for the holidays. We would have gone out to dinner, but it would have been wasted on me because I still couldn't taste. (I could always taste most milk based things? So frozen yogurt was great - in fact....I think I will take my granddaughter to get some first thing!)
I'm happy you are through it, Judith.0 -
Sounds like everyone has something significant going on this summer. Hope everything goes well.
For me, Saturday I hosted a small one-year later covid postponed bridal shower for my daughter, given by my sister and sister-in-law. We decided to have it in my backyard since it's a big space and would be better in regard to covid as we're a high risk area right now. But it meant a lot of work getting stuff planted and cleaning up. I'm vegging out today..
Next, my son will be coming in from California for the one-year-later reception. Don't have to do anything for that other than pay for it!0 -
MarcieB, thank you for the update on Geannie. It’s great that she had her surgery today after all.
judithj, congratulations on finishing up your radiation! Here’s to you! And I too feel that we here are all friends — far-flung but brought together by being survivors and Greg Pierce’s WhatNext. Here’s to you, Greg!0 -
beachbum, I just posted my print on the pinboard here. The show is a self-portrait show in Newark, Gallery Aferro. This print was made in Photoshop. I used a self-portrait I took and manipulated it in Photoshop. It’s 11x14”. Thank you!
MarcieB, I’m afraid to go to Newark at night. My partner doesn’t “travel” (we’d have to go by PATH train and then walk many blocks. A friend of mine who lives in NJ near Newark said she’ll take installation shots of the show and send them to me. Thanks!0 -
Ah! Everyone seems so happy and energetic! This summer does "feel" different than the past two years doesn't it?! I've no special plans - just enjoying how LIGHT the rooms are with sun coming in. So different than the wintertime in MN. But with light, come the mosquitoes. And they are relentless. I won't use anything with deet - but several botanicals and essential oils mixed with almond oil are working for the length of time I venture out. Also read that if you swab blue mouthwash on your arms or whereever - they will avoid you! Hmmm - I'll let you know.
Bug, been helping my neighbor with a Celebration of Life for her husband who died in March. Married 53 years. It is a very long process to put together but I can see she sees it being a project of love and perhaps a closure. It will be nice for her to be surrounded by their friends. I'm sure yours will be lovely!
And yay for Geannie - just saw they said yes to Monday afterall. Be nice to hear when she's back.
And Carool's exhibition!! Ditmoll's bridal shower0 -
...Marcie being quickly reminded why Grandchildren are the greatest cause they get to go home after a while with their mommies!
Judith - yay! no more radiation! I didn't ring a bell. I was given a 'certificate' with smiley faces...that I wanted to shove up someone's backside....because my onco-radiologist was a letch the entire 6 weeks - and I was afraid to complain at the time....but he later retired suddenly a few months later for unknown reasons. I guess I wasn't the only one.
And even looking forward to an electric fan!!
May we all have a wonderful summer!0 -
Ashera, thank you! It’s a big group show, so not quite “my” exhibition, but not everyone got in.
I never rang a bell at my last chemo. I’m not sure they even had a bell. And I know that people who’ll never get to ring the bell might feel sad hearing others ring it (I read this in another cancer site).
Ashera, I can’t imagine having an oncologist who’s a letch! It’s hard enough dealing with cancer.0 -
Carool -
No, my oncologist is my BFF - it was the radiation-oncologist! He'd say things like I'd be back on Baywatch in no time; he would spend a lot of time 'fondling' my breasts in his office once a week...and you could just feel it oozing out of him. Neither my oncologist, nor my surgeon had much comment about him, while he often made snide remarks about them - but later learned there had been numerous complaints about his hands-on overkill. Absolutely the worst part of the treatment.0 -
Ashera, that’s bad indeed. Thank you. I’m glad you don’t need to have any contact with him. Sheesh!0
