WhatNext- That's a Great Question

Many people have been on this forum for years. We all reach forks in the road where things change. We get our diagnosis. We go into remission. We have a recurrence. We have special life celebrations or trials.
I think we all know that a big fork in the road was the loss of Greg. Some people seem to have decided that since Greg has earned his wings (I think he earned them long before he completely his earthly journey to be honest), that the site is just going to perish. It won't ever be "the same." It is up to us to decide whether it continues or fades away. I believe a great many of us wish it to continue and so that brings me to my question. What Next? Greg was definitely our guide on this forum for a very long time, but I have seen the leadership and wisdom of many of you. We have some very talented and wise people here.
In what direction do we want this forum to proceed? We can carry on. We just need to do it. Call to action has been placed. Let's do this!!

I like the positive vibes for days of the week! Marvelous Monday, Terrific Tuesday, Wonderful Wednesday, Thankful Thursday and Fabulous Friday! If we all send a quick little note of cheer and encouragement to the site more people might chime in. Also asking for updates on members so we can reach out during the tougher times. Maybe asking about challenges we are having related or not to our cancer. I don’t really want political sharing since that’s sensitive for some people. I’d like to hear about favorite hobbies that bring peace to people or places they love to go for calming and quiet or joy. I enjoy this site and hope we can keep it going. Looks like we may need to spice it up a bit! Thanks for the nudge legaljen1969!0

@Teachertina- I would agree we should TRY to keep it non-political. This should be a safe space where we can relax. Politics gets so heated at times.

I definitely agree that sending notes of cheer and encouragement would be great to get people chiming in. I may go in another direction as well with some days.
Since I may be the weekly "floater" (Marcie's words LOL) I will see if I can come up with some creative titles for my days to post- randomly. I do like the idea of spicing it up a bit- just a little mixture of fun and friendship.

The loss of Greg was heartbreaking, that he suffered so much crushing. He was our good guy, the one who got our conversations unstuck. Politics are OK with me, the dc gang gets to meddle in our cost of care, what may or may not be covered. We need to stay informed to vote in the best interest of humanity. Such a thread could have an "off" tag so those sensitive can choose not to see the thread. Why don't we have a new leader/coach?0

I was thinking recently that the site has been really quiet. I appreciate your effort to spice things up.0

Oh no! I didn't know we'd lost Greg. I hadn't gotten too many daily digest emails lately, and I supposed things were very quiet. I agree we should keep this site supportive and positive. I think if politics creeps in, we should make a whole new thread for those who want to discuss politics while those who don't won't have to stop looking at threads they would otherwise follow. HUGS and God bless.0

Nothing is the same/is going to be the same.
I will continue reading ,but not maybe commenting when /if I get a digest.0 -
@PaulineJ, of course nothing is the same and will never be the same. It is sad that we have lost a valued member of our community- especially one that was our leader. That said, we have the opportunity to honor Greg and to grow this site to reach even further.
@Lindy, I see your point about the fact that politicians get to meddle in and make decisions about our care. It really is important to stay informed. I am certainly not the decision maker about what stays and what goes on this forum. I just know that during the last election cycle, it got pretty heated a time or two. I just don't want to alienate anyone who may be coming here for hope or information about cancer to feel like it is political site. I think discussion, even spirited discussion, is great. I just want to be sure this site remains a place where people feel "safe" while on their cancer journey. I just don't like the idea of fighting about politics. Discussing them, yes. Fighting about them? Not so much. That's just my idea of what "I" want for the future of the forum.0 -
PaulineJ, good to hear from you again on this site. Please keep coming back and please post whatever is on your mind and how you are doing. Did you get the vaccine? I know a few folks who are still on the fence about getting it. Hopefully spring and summer will see things looking better for all of us . It was a long, long winter. We are still having a cold snap here in NC. Hurry up warm weather!0

Thanks for the info, PaulineJ , I plan to read it tomorrow, looks interesting.0

I got the vaccine without hesitation, I expect we will have to get an annual booster shot., I expect pandemics may become more frequent. I would like to see our tax funded support of the research to produce the vaccines refunded as the use of the vaccines makes the expected profits.0

@Lindy, good luck with getting refunds on the tax funded support of the research. LOL These corporations aren't going to share their profits. I was listening to something the other day where the commentator said "corporations don't pay taxes." While yes, there is a corporate tax and it is subject to increase- there is really a lot of truth in that statement. The corporations pass that cost on to the consumer. It never eats into their profit. If they have to pay more taxes, we have to pay more for the product. Politicians talk about raising the tax rate for corporations like "We are going after the big guy. We are going after those that have the money and make them pay their share" like it is a punitive or a shame tax. Who really gets "punished?" It's not the corporations.
I was very much in the anti-COVID vaccine camp for quite awhile. Then I realized it was going to limit my ability to do many of the activities I love, most of all traveling. I realized I would not be permitted to go many places I would like to go if I didn't decide to get vaccinated. My family is planning to take a cruise next year, provided nothing crazy happens between now and then. I want to be able to go with them. I want to see my family. I want to cruise. I want to have fun. Yes, my reason for changing camps is very selfish and not purely motivated out of concern for "The greater good," but I am not prepared to limit my life to stand on principle on this particular issue.0 -

PaulineJ, I watched some of the videos. Didn’t really agree with some of what I heard, but I think we can all agree to disagree on some things. I respect your feelings and faithfulness to what you believe. That’s what freedom is all about in this country. Don’t ever let anyone take that away from us! Keep sharing with us and don’t stop adding to this site. We need to hear all sides and opinions on topics of interest. Thanks for being here to share, take care, sending hugs your way!0
