Renal Cell Carcinoma

I learned something yesterday from my Oncologist. We were discussing my newly diagnosed lung cancer and biopsy results. It is now suggested that if you have a mammogram almost due and are hoping to get an appointment soon for your vaccine, the priority should be the mammo. I'll explain. My biopsy was done 6 days after getting my last vaccine. It was lung cancer, advanced but localized, not a met from RCC, Stage 3. On the opposite side something hot showed up on the PET in - my arm pit area. I can only assume it too is lung cancer. I am waiting to be scheduled for a separate biopsy for that. What many Oncologists have found is that a number of women who also have that hot spot have recently had a vaccine shot. That the spot is actually a pocket of vaccine recently received in the body. They now recommend waiting 6 weeks after your final shot to do scans, PET or biopsy. In my case spot was on left and vaccines went into left arm. If not vaccine, it will be Stage 4. Just an FYI.to all.

    andreacha, I’m sorry this has happened to you. I know that these days there are encouraging treatments for lung cancer, and I hope you can get one or more of those. And I hope, of course, that the hot spot is due to the vaccine. Sending hugs.

    I sure hope that the spot that showed up in your left armpit is due to the COVID vaccine and not cancer. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Sending prayers and hugs. Take care.

    Hopefully it’s not a bad spot. My last spot 3 months ago went away. Hope yours does too. I had my last shot the day before this last scan, so it had nothing to do with the spot. They said mammograms are different though. Keep us posted. Hugs coming your way!

    Why would you think it would be stage IV? that could be a lymph node and that wouldn't make you stage IV.

    cards7up - That's what my Oncologist said. I'm not the one with the extra letters behind my name. Maybe he feels that it is a metastasis (on my left arm lymph node), the opposite side from the main mass in the right upper lobe. Your guess is as good as mine, but it is but it is concerning to me.
