    Hello,
You sound like you have been through a lot as has my husband.
He was diagnosed in 2009 at the age of 49. Right now he is very miserable as you can see on his profile.

How long did you have to deal with incontinance after your surgery?

Thanks very much for the info and encouragement. It’s always a help when you’re dealing with the big C. My situation is that I have had prostatitis since my mid-40s with PSA readings from six to the low teens. I have had two biopsies between age 46 and 57. At 55 I also had a microwave treatment for enlarged prostate with urinary problems. Last December, at age 66 I underwent a TURP to correct the returning urinary problem. That is when they found the cancer because of the excessively large prostate and reconnecting the urethra, prostate removal is not an option. That is why the combined treatment six months of hormone blocker and the rapid arc radiation. Rapid arc is a 360° rotating machine pinpointing the tumor and causing less damage to healthy tissue that is why the 43 treatments less than five minutes per treatment.

Diagnosed 2 years ago, did hormone thearpy and Zytiga. Lesions on bones, just found out I have one on vertabrea pressing on spine. Began radiation and pain has eased. Will start chemo when radiation done. You give me hope brother, keep up the fight.

Thanks for your "best answer" To my recent question on the issue of a wife leaving her husband after prostate cancer and 29 yrs. I hope you had the chance to read the blog post I put up addressing the situation in full. All the best to you in your continued recovery. We are in the same boat, as we continue to survive.

Enjoyed your piece. Two years ago I was diagnosed with testicular cancer during the holiday season. That's a frustrating time because you want to get in there and fight and all the doctors are off! Best to you. So far I have made it. If I get testicular cancer the third time I'll be famous!

Congratulations on being a survivor. Thank you for sharing your story, particularly about how you are able to stay positive through it all. You are an inspiration to me and many others. My intent is to follow in your footsteps, as I continue to recover, and provide hope for others who are faced with a difficult diagnosis.

    Hi Michael,
Great meeting with you as usual. Really enjoyed the conversation also as usual. Here is the crazy letter I got which was so off the wall I didn't even know what to say or how to respond. Someone had to sit down and write it but it jumps all over the place. When you want a mind exercise, try and make sense out of this one!

You can find the original letters about 18-20 days ago on my timeline.

mgm48 - Good to hear that you could work through the chemo. I may get to that point and I agree that sitting at home is not good for my attitude. I will be watching this site, I already have learned some valuable things from the folks here.

Very interesting about the PSA numbers, I had no idea that folks could have such a high number. Also I am taking the zytiga 1000 mg on an empty stomach and you commented that you are now taking it in a smaller dose on food. Just more information. I see that you are still working and that is one of my concerns. I work in an industry where contracting is quite common and while I have good health insurance there is now such thing as disability leave, so If I have to undergo chemo it could wipe out my savings. There is a good possibility of a perminate job coming along and the questing have is would it be dishonorable to take a job knowing that I might have to turn around and go on disability? Comments?

My husband's PSA is high and the doctor has scheduled a CT and bone scan. He was diagnosed in 1999 and had radiation upon diagnosis, did the cryosurgery (freezing) when it came back about six years ago, and now it looks like it might be back. However, we are praying that it is not. I am taking inspiration from you...you are quite a fighter!! I myself am in remission from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Just had a clean scan last Tuesday making me 1 year and 8 months cancer-free!

Have not heard much from you lately. You have been so prolific the last few years I am wondering if you are OK? I had to go on Taxotere as you know and the first time I ended up in the ER 4 days later. The second time things went a lot better and it has been 5 days and with the help of some super steroids, I have had no pain or ill feelings this time. When you have time, let me hear from to let me know you are OK. Have a great weekend.

Keep up the positive attitude. When I went onto the Zytiga, my PSA went up for two months and then slowly started coming down. As you and I know, it is such a crap shoot, we are all individuals and we all respond differently to each treatment. Hang in there with your positive attitude. My thoughts are with you. Michael

Hi! I was wondering if you might be able to help me. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had his prostate removed 15 years ago. Recently (past 4-6 months) his PSA has gone from 8.5 to 12. Have you heard of this? How can his prostate rise when he doesn't have one?? Frustrating...

Hi mgm48, I really appreciated your answer to my question about "if after tumor becomes hormone resistant, chemo is the only way".

My father has no symptons, but for the third time, after lupron, bicalutamide an ketoconazole, his PSA has increased (It´s 70 now, the highest level in his journey), so, I think his doctor will prescribe chemo to him in his next consult, in december,17. I suppose that after a third PSA increase he can be considered a hormone refractary.

He had exams done this week (blood, xray, mri, etc...) and i took a look on them (As a curious, of course...) and understood that this psa increase is perhaps being caused by the increasing in the volume of his prostate gland (It´s weightening 80 grames against 50 grames in the last exam in september) more than because of the three mets/nodes in spine, wich are the same, not more, not less, only the same in the same places. His energy is good as always and doesn´t have any sympton.

You said, that your psa was reduced after the chemos from 99 to 36 (It was in september/october?), but what happened after this, it increased again and then you were applied to this trial or both things are not linked ?

What is the clinical trial you have been participating ?

I understood that your doctors say that 12% of the people receiving this medicine becomes tumor free/cured. Am I sure ? It sounds wonderful.

Do you think my father could be approved for a trial like this as well, before chemo ?

If you prefer to answer direct to me, may mail is:
    crpolimax@hotmail.com

The best for you, your comments and inputs have been very helpful to me.
