Decision Point | Do I get radiation therapy?

I am trying to decide if I need to get radiation therapy. After surgery, the surgeon felt confident I would not need chemo, and probably not radiation, given the risk/benefit ratio. The radiation oncologist said that according to the "standard of care" I would need 30 radiation treatments because the cancer was in more than one lymph node (1 lymph node had a tumor of 2.5 cm, a second had a tumor of .7 cm). I am trying to determine if the benefits are worth the risks, which seem great.

I had surgery and 30 radiation treatments. I had Squamous cell carcinoma on my left tonsil remnant. That was 7 years ago. My cancer was encapsulated so it did not spread. I think the radiation was a good idea. I have been okay so far. Good luck to you .0
