Apparently, the first Sunday in June (which is today) is National Cancer Survivor's Day. I was going to say "Happy National Cancer Survivor's Day" to everyone but then that felt kind of odd - not sure why. How do you feel about National Cancer Survivor's Day?

Hi. I feel blessed to be a survivor of breast cancer since 2014 8 yrs. When I was first diagnosed I prayed for 5 years. I am blessed for 8 yrs! Celebrate? Yes! Show hope to others! When I was diagnosed there really weren’t known survivors. One lady zi knew for nearly 20 years only told me after she was found out I was diagnosed and being treated. She took me into a side room to whisper to me she was a survivor. Yes, celebrate, share, bring it into the open.0

Bug, I didn’t know this. I like that there’s such a day. I’m a day late, but I’ll say happy NCSD to all of us. How do you feel about this designated day?
junie1, I’m sorry you had a recurrence. I’ve been okay for 23 years now but am always aware that breast cancer can return even after decades. But I try to forget about that possibility.0 -
I saw this online at a site I follow and I was surprised too.
Angelaine, I , too, was surprised to learn of all the women I knew who had battled BC. But, unlike your friend, they just all came up to me and told me straight out. And all of them were joyful at their own survival and had a very positive attitude to share with me. I guess things have changed since 2014 and I think it might be a good thing.
I say we celebrate everything we can - because we can.0 -
I feel so blessed to be alive!
I spread blessings to everyone, either as survivors, or those battling this horrendous monster.
Stay strong, you have my prayers and blessings and all this wonderful extended family that are always so helpful and supportive 24/7!!!0 -
Carool, I think it's nice to celebrate cancer survivors and it doesn't bother me at all. I just didn't know if it would somehow bother some people. For example, they might think, "Oh, gee, great - well I wish I never had cancer in the first place" or "Don't remind me" or something like that.0

I am one of those ‘quiet ones’. Three primary cancers (not related), a reoccurance to third one 4 months after surgery, chemo, rad, etc. the whole enchilada. I have been called a warrior! I have met so many fighting cancer. My best friend was just told she has 4 months after a 6 year fight. I celebrate every day and everyone who is in the club. Hugs to you all!0

Bug, thank you. I never considered that some people might be troubled by this day (well, until you mentioned it here I didn’t even know there was such a day, as I said).0

We all know people who didn't survive. Maybe having a Survivor's Day is painful for those who lost loved ones? I can't help but think about our Greg, and how we wish he were here to celebrate - but, I believe he would encourage us all to keep on keeping on and be happy to be here for each other as well as those who love us. Maybe Donna would have a different perspective? It's certainly more controversial than say...National Donut Day.0

I've never heard of this day, but I think it's great. Sometimes we forget to celebrate that we have survived and take it for granted.
Maybe Google will put it on our calendar someday!0
