Wait...no one posted a Thankful Thursday site for us to get together? Well, lets remedy that and try Freaky Friday (what has been freaking you out lately?) or Friendly Friday if you just want to check in and say "Hi." (we love that).

My hair is freaking me out.

I have allowed it to go natural gray shades because I am not so thrilled with the idea of chemicals on my scalp anymore. And I have noticed a LOT of women are going natural since the pandemic made it impossible to go to a salon.

And I know the medication (anastrozole) has made my hair thinner. My hairdresser insists it isn't really bad, but I know what my hair was, and to me it is bad. Has anyone switched from anastrozole to another drug that is maybe a bit easier on the hair thinning thing?

Or does anyone have a good suggestion for the most flattering cut for thinning hair?

Hi, MarcieB! I have no suggestions re switching meds and hair thinning. I’m just here to say hi.

And mention that I’ve never colored my hair, but now I sometimes think I’d like to “wear” another color than gray. My hair was dark brown. I sometimes miss that (and the younger ages that preceded the gray).

My thinning hair has prompted me to go shorter over time. It’s now like a pixie cut with wispy bangs. I used to have dark brown hair that I colored with highlights but now I’m salt and pepper with white edges around the face. I wash and go now, so easy. It looks a bit thicker being shorter. My daughter is doing the same thing, getting shorter as her hair thins like mine did. I get a lot of compliments on it now. Didn’t get that before, so it must have been pretty bad then! Lol!

I don't have any input on the meds or hairstyles for thinning hair either. But speaking of coloring hair... Traditional hair dye makes my scalp itch like crazy. It got to the point that I decided I would stop coloring my hair if I couldn't find something that would not irritate my scalp. I found someone who uses products that don't have as many chemicals and, hallelujah, no more irritation. She tried three different types and none of them bothered my scalp. Fortunately, I can order one of the brands myself and do it at home. That became my husband's job during the pandemic. He just did it yesterday as a matter of fact.

I hope everyone is staying cool. It was about 109 here today and tomorrow's forecast is 113. Ugh.

Tamoxifen has done a number on my hair too. I do color it with a product I subscribe to online that purports to have fewer harsh ingredients, but am getting to the point where I'm ready to let it grow out and chop it off. During the pandemic it got longer than it's ever been and I loved it, but getting ready to move on.
Cooled off after torrential rain here on Wednesday. Rain and back to the 80s in the forecast every day from now until next Friday. So many around southeast Michigan have had massive flooding of sewage in their basements or, nearer us, trees and parts of trees down over the last couple of weeks. My Thankful Thursday was that flooding was confined to the yard and tree limbs were annoying but did no damage.

    Good morning

    Sorry I haven't responded.
This week has been really rough for!

What was scheduled for one biopsy turned out to be four: as I had to do an endoscopy (originally planned) and the doctor added the colonoscopy!

I am very sore, can barely talk, and it's quite difficult and painful to drink and eat!

My friend John, has been my nurse and, lIke always, goes way and beyond to make me feel comfortable and secure. He even held my hand before the procedure waa done. As for my daughter, she is literally my life coach who fills me up with optimism, strength, and positive vibes....She always tells me: "Ma, you got this!"

Awaiting for the results of those biopsies and hoping for the best!

I missed Grateful Thuraday.....yet I am always so grateful God puts in my path, people like each of you, who have me in their prayers and lift me up each time I fall.

    Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking forward to eating that seedless watermelon a friend gave me.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone ...and let's NEVER stop being the true warriors we all are!

Bug, if possible, I'd love for you to share the brands of those hair dyes that don't irritate your scalp.

Geannie, I cannot believe what a stressful week you have had and I am glad it is behind you. Now we will be hoping for good results from all those tests. I join you in being thankful for the blessings of your friend and daughter who are caring for you so lovingly. The people in our lives can make all the difference. I have often found that pain in the mouth area can resolve itself rather quickly, I hope that is true for you. Lately I have discovered the joy of ice cold watermelon chunks! (and I want that for you)

Grateful for seedless watermelon, it is especially sweet this year. Can't get enough of it.

But one thing that I am not grateful for is the &$%@* mosquitoes- we have had mucho rain
and live in the country on a lake. This season is the worst ever, can't go outside without long pants & shirts & something over my head & DEET! But at least we didn't flood like in Detroit. Wish some of our rain could go out west & help the drought and fires, and terrible heat.
Summer is not fun if you can't go outside,

Geannie, I’ll add my good wishes that your biopsies are benign. Perhaps it was good that you had both endoscopies at one time, so that they’re both over at once.

    I love seedless watermelon!

Here we had a lot of rain on Thursday, and there was flooding in the Bronx (far from me). And one subway line had flooding.

Geannie, the brand I am using at home is Madison Reed. You can find it at:

    madison-reed.com

The other two brands were Oway and Organic Color Systems. (Be careful with the Organic Color Systems if you google it. There is a product with a similar name and it isn't the same stuff.) I don't know if non-professionals can buy them or not - I haven't looked into that. Madison Reed provided the best gray coverage for me so that's the one we stayed with. One of my sisters tried it, though, and didn't find the gray coverage to be great. I think it's a matter of trial and error. Good luck!

Let me start by saying to Geannie that I hope you get good results from your biopsies. Four seems a lot in one week. I was thinking you said one day. If I was right about that- then you are definitely a superhero for making it through.

My hair is freaking me out too. I have not stopped coloring mine, but think I may have to do so. Throughout the pandemic, I was definitely trying to find ways to maximize volume and reduce the look of the thin "stringies" at the ends. I didn't realize how much natural curl I have, so I have been doing all I can to try to work with it. I got the urge to straighten it the other day and it looked so bad at the ends.

I think having a stylist who is willing to work with you to find solutions is definitely key too. I think she greatly underestimates the role that the medication plays in my thinning hair. Now it's just a train wreck. I keep telling my stylist that what I have going on now is not working for me, but she has a "vision" and a direction and asks me to trust her. I was doing well until the last cut or two and I don't see this going in a direction that ends well. So the next visit is going to be one where we either have a serious sit down and she listens to me OR I have to find a new stylist. It is hard because we are good friends with her and her partner. I know that friendship is going to go off the rails if I tell her I have to find a new stylist.

I know my "freakouts" are minimal and very insignificant, but they are the ones I have right now. I suppose I should thank my lucky stars that they are so small.

    Good morning everyone!

Thanks for showering me with optimism, good vibes, and hair dye advice!

Still a bit sore, especially in my esophagus. However, I'm happy to share that yesterday I was able to eat an entire meal, with a lesser degree of pain.

We all know too well about pain....so this is just one little bump to overcome!

Have a great Monday my cheetished family!!!!!!!!!

Geannie, that sounds very unpleasant to have pain in your esophagus. I am glad you were able to eat yesterday with a lesser degree of pain.

Hi Everyone. I was catching up from my visit with g-son, but like Freaky Friday. I understand about the hair deal. I started Ibrance 18 months ago. Dr. said I would lose hair, but not get bald. I made scarves or bandanas to match my outfits for when I was bald (3 times). What little bit of hair I have now just sticks out. Hair products make me itch & sometimes, it is a waste of money. I wear a scarf most of the time. Dr. said I look cute in a scarf. I guess a 75 y/o woman can look cute.
