My wife is about to start treatments in this study for her Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma lung cancer. Anyone else in the study who can contribute experiences / comments?

If it is a Phase 1 study, there probably aren't very many people yet who have experienced the trial. I hope you will share with us more about the trial and the drug(s) she will be getting. I too have adenocarcinoma of the lungs and it is possible that I have at least a new tumor, so may be looking at beginning treatment again. Will be very interested to learn more about this particular trial. Wishing your wife the best of success!

I have no experience with her type of cancer or that study, but I will be entering a trial myself tomorrow on a new drug to combine with Keytruda for metastatic head and neck cancer. We hope your wife's trial goes great! As @LiveWithCancer said, please keep posting about her progress, it will help others who are starting their own trial and even those who are deep into a trial.

At this point I feel we are entering into a state of desperation as nothing has helped her since being diagnosed back in September of 2018. She has had chemo, a lobectomy of the right lower lung, radiation of the chest, Immunotherapy, a trial study drug - poziotinib (which created nasty side-effects and did nothing. Pleural Effusion appeared and she had to have a chest tube installed to drain chest fluids every 3-4 days for about a month. {I did this for her at home]. Then shifting to another drug - Kadcyla which is an FDA Approved breast cancer med for patients exhibiting the HER-2 biomarker. This initially was effective in shrinking some of the tumors for a while, but after 6 treatments, the tumors came back and larger and in new places. She's getting tired and losing weight, energy and soon the ability to work her job that she loves so much. But we're not giving up hope.

@jandahazy, I sure do hope that this clinical trial will be just the ticket for your wife. It sounds like she's been through the fire so far with her treatment. I was really lucky because when I got in my trial, it was for immunotherapy, and I was one of those who does respond to it. May this one be the right one for your wife. I've not kept up like I should, especially since I have no mutations, but is the HER-2 biomarker somewhat uncommon? Of course, I know about EGFR, but I don't remember seeing anything about the HER-2 connected with lung cancer.

Anyway, I'm praying that this new trial is just the one to stop her cancer and extend her life. (I relate to how difficult it is to stay positive when you feel horrible and nothing is working. I haven't felt that way since I was first diagnosed, but I was about ready to quit trying for a treatment and live out whatever life I had left without feeling so horrid. Hugs, hope and courage are winging their way to her.)

The HER-2 biomarker is sometimes found in Adenocarcinoma lung cancer. That is why Kadcyla treatments were recommended and was effective for a short period. I will certainly post the outcome and results of the DS-1062a treatments as soon as I can. Thank you all for reading my posts and the best wishes for success comments.

Hi @jandahazy, we are glad you have chosen to share your experience. As others have pointed out, your experiences do help other and enables you to learn at the same time. I am also a caretaker for my wife, was steered towards an immunotherapy drug by @LiveWithCancer and have realized some degrees of success with this hideous disease.

Please realize that each of our journeys are as different as the cancer is within each body. It is extremely important for you to closely monitor your wife, her potential reactions to these drugs, do independent research to further prepare for your wife's doctor appointments if you wish, be sure to update us, ask questions and realize that there is also oncology nursing assistance as well. Best of luck with your journey and please realize you are not alone...
