Meyati, that’s good to hear! It’s so sad when animals suffer.0

Carool that dog is a 100% well now. When he had his discharge physical exam, they found the cancer. Like a human, they treated him for his cancer before discharging him. Like most vets, he gets free medical care. and his family doesn't have to pay for it.
The 2 Sgts wandered around looking lost--no bombs to look for. They are used to being adored, loved, petted, but they knew that something was different. The one that didn't have cancer is undergoing a 3 month retirement course-to be more social and learn how to relax---These dogs-technically have never been off base. meaning they were on duty,\: meaning in kennels, patrolling, flying, constant training, always with adult military police, in war zones.
My coonhounds had the tough training of learning about hanging in the kitchen, sleeping with me, good manners in begging and accepting treats-also known as bribery. Toddlers chasing them, using them for pillows--0 -

You dog lovers might enjoy this. It's on A&E on Wed night. They have the underdog--a civilian dog that competes against the police dogs.
They have the police car salom, the wall jumps or crawl under, pull trap doors down by grabbing a ball. for one section and climb the ramps. then cross a rickety bridge and swim for it. Most of these dogs don't like water. One never knows what to expect. One dog jumped over a fence and disappeared. The dog went over to the bushes to lift a leg. They didn't have the best time, but that dog jumped in and swam really fast.
The next is to sniff out 5 objects in 5 minutes. They use some explosive scent for the bomb dogs, some drug scent for drug dogs, and the underdogs usually are for search and rescue, so they use human scent, which has to be hard because the whole place smells like humans.
The thing bout this contest is that for sniffing/searching- they have lots of time in real life, but only 5 minutes in the contest. most of the dogs are OK, but it affects the humans. One dog grabbed the object and shoved it to his handler- the handler thought the dog was playing.
The winner of each show gets $10,000 and Chewy donates $5,000 to the winners favorite dog charity. Most select police dog charities to help care for retired K9s. Lots of places put them down.0 -
It's always good to see these pups retire into cushy homes and learn to be regular doggos again. Whether military or first responders, these dogs definitely deserve to be loved and spend the rest of their lives being pampered. And maybe running helter-skelter through fields or forests or dog parks.0

Meyati, good to know. And your coonhounds deserve that “tough training” forever! They are Very Good Dogs.0

So glad to hear that. So many military dogs are just dumped back where they came from to go to another strange handler.0

Now they are trying to either have the handler take the dog, or someone in the handlers unit. Congress passed that law a few years ago. The Sgt with the cancer moved in with his handlers family during treatment. The other K9 Sgt went to the home of a unit member.0
