An ad comes on TV for a new drug. It describes what it's for and how it will help you.

At the end of the ad it says "do not take Verzinio if you are allergic to it or any of it's ingredients. That's fine, we don't need to be taking things we are allergic to. But how do you know if you are allergic to it or not? It's a NEW drug, presumably, not many people have taken it. And, I'm not a chemist so I don't know what the ingredients are.
Have you noticed these disclaimers?

I once saw "manufactured in a plant that processes nuts" on a bag of peanuts.
And yes Bob, I've seen that disclaimer many times and wonder about the sanity of those who write such nonsense. But then, I worked in an advertising agency for many years!0 -
If you go the the web site for that drug, you can find a list of the ingredients in it, but obviously not proportions. You may have to dig through the medical part of the site, but it should be there. You'll at least be able to check for anything that you know you are allergic to.0

I have made it a game to see how many seconds of a commercial are for the "selling the name" for the drug Vs. how many seconds are spent telling about the possible side effects and other issues that may be associated with taking the drug.0

Ya know, I've thought the same thing. Using peanut analogies again. "Don't eat peanuts if you are allergic to peanuts." But how the heck would you know you are allergic if you've never been exposed to a peanut? Sigh...0

The disclaimers are ridiculous. I have to laugh at them a lot of the time.
And with all of those, we still have something like Zantac that made it to becoming so common it was available OTC ... and now recalled, after all of these years, because of its connection with cancer................ Sheesh.0 -
Husband and I every night while listening to all the potential side effects of all these drugs and say, “let’s try to get some of that”.0

Those commercials are comical. They show a couple enjoying life having a picnic at the park, smiling and things just couldn't be better, while the voice over is saying may cause diarrhea, bloating, shortness of breath, rashes, a limp in your left leg, may cause ugliness, and other serious health problems up to and including death.
I try not to even look at the side effects that "might" happen for any of my drugs. I'm afraid if I do I will sub-consciously start having all of those symptoms.0 -
Agree with everyone. My husband and I have laughed when they say do not take ??? if you are allergic to it or it’s ingredients . When I hear the side effects I am appalled , I do take some prescribed medications and I have the same reaction when I read the informational paper I get when I pick my medications up from the pharmacy. Xxx if you do and xxx if you don’t.0

I also get a kick out of the part at the bottom of the screen that claims your first dose only costs $5.00.
Well, as we all know, the next one & all the ones after that cost $500.00.
Sounds like some sort of deal your local drug dealer on the street would do!0 -
