I just posted in a place I think you can see. This site is very confusing for me. We texted about sleep. Hope yours has improved. My questions were on breast cancer and my earlier posts there under themom tell of the past 16 months. I thought it all came up under themom. Maybe you can answer or know of someone or someone will see and reply. I can only hope and pray.

I am TheMom. I noticed I started posting just about a year ago on the blog, but have not been very active. I may be somewhere else as it does not show all. My daughter has BRCA breast cancer and been through chemo, a single mastectomy and radiation. She is currently cancer free, but I have questions again and things I want to understand. It would be easier to contest about her there. She’s open to talk, but it has to upset her. I do not get emotional when with her.I cry it out after. Can you see my older posts? So much info there. I did not realize at first you answer all types of questions.
But first, I noticed your sleep question. I’ve always had sleep problems. I take clonazepam for restless leg. But a lot is in my brain. I have chronic depression disease. I have what I call busybrain, it just doesn’t turn off.
Several years ago, a friend recommended sleep recordings I originally used CDs, but some are available as downloads and I use my iPad and have it set up to repeat all night.
Belleruth Naperstak has many, in fact my daughter was given a couple that are cancer specific. Her website is www.healthjourneys.com I have purchased on Amazon. Hers are not usually downloads, but I think if you are tech minded or a friend is they can be converted to use on a cell or iPad.
*I have found that Mark Grant’s Calm and Confident Parts 1 and 2. work best for me. It is a bilateral stimulation EMDR, so you must use earbuds. After the initial relaxation drill, to control my thinking, I focus on counting from 99 backwards, picturing the numbers coming down a branch of a tree. I seldom get to one. also has Pain, for when awake.
There are also many types on youtube. It’s hard to find the right one, but some work at night and others good for daytime calming.

Charnell , About the question "Neuropathic Pain" By my estimation Greg has nucked close to 100 entries still they keep multiplying I have marked as inappropriate and blocked a number of them I believe they scan for questions about "pain" because the people responding to those questions are particularly vulnerable This is cruelty to the max.

OK-- there are different types of pain clinics, and they seem to push their favorite procedure. A real certified pain clinic can still be less than effective because of what they push. Barbara-even VA pain clinics are that way. The Albuquerque. VA fully used the different types of nerve blocks, then years later the Los Angeles and some Florida VAs began using nerve blocks. This was in the Military Times-not the regional VA news.

Nerve blocks-- there are a dozen different medical mixtures for nerve blocks. I was a patient person and spent months trying out different mixtures.

I turned down surgeries for the RSD--and left that clinic. I also started out in an AF pain clinic, where I was given surgery room strength meds. I hit one colonel in the head with an almost full pill bottle. He got the point that the meds weren't working not even a little bit.

I was told by the effective pain clinic, later by the VA and AF that one reason my nerve blocks worked so well (after we found one that did work) was because I did not take any NSAID, acetaphenmine, alcohol, etc. I couldn't sleep over 3 hours at a time. My right hand was almost black from dead nerves. I would have committed suicide if I hadn't found that pain clinic.

Charnell, I hope you have come peacefully through Mother's Day. I have said prayers for you. I did have a difficult Mother's Day. It reminded me of how much a failure I was a daughter. It also reminded me of how underserving I am of the great love my children have shown me over the years.

Charnell I am posting to you because I believe that we have the same childhood issues. Today is my mother's birthday. And Sunday is mother's day. I am still trying to sort out my conflicting feelings. I realize now that my mother was a bitter woman and I have come to forgive her. I began the forgiving process when I was diagnosed with cancer.
I pray that this Mother's Day you may take steps to understanding your mother if not forgiving her. Perhaps you may even come to communicate with each other.

Hi. Read your post on the PTSD and it was very sad to read & made even more sad because I do not sympathize but I do empathize. As the kids would say "I feel you" (another reason to not like Bill Clinton, lol).

This is what they mean by a "new normal" but, I agree that it isnt normal at all

There really are things you can do but they are outside of the world of conventional meds.

charnell, in your comment to LindaAnnie's experience about finishing her treatments you mentioned that you just finished 20 weeks of chemo. Congratulations to you! Did the radiation doctor say you will need radiation?

Hi Charnell, what kind of chemo did you have? I have the same stage cancer as you and we are the same age. I had adriomycin for 2 months (4 treatments) and then 12 weekly treatments of taxol. I am meeting with the oncologist tomorrow to review my treatment and results. Did you do this?

    Charnell,

chemo is doable, don't be afraid. I was able to attend my sons high school graduation the day after my first treatment. For me it was important to take the anti nausea drugs on time, even if I was feeling ok. The steroids I took really helped with side effects. They made it difficult to sleep the first night, as I felt wound up. As the steroids wore off I would feel more exhausted and the bottom was the third day. If you experience this same pattern, remember to tell yourself- tomorrow I will feel better, because you really will, after the third day I improved and felt almost normal right before the next treatment. I went back to work on the 4th to 5th day. I was able t keep my job with some help from my coworkers. they gave me the easiest , sit down job for the course of my treatments. It was almost nine months of treatment including the radiation. I work in a busy hospital lab. And today I am able to do the walking and standing and do the job. I do still need to rest a lot after work these days and I rest a lot on the weekends I have off. Start now to pace yourself. If you need help Ask for it. My husband helped me with grocery shopping and housework. I had t learn to do less than what I wanted to do around the house. I read that a little bit of exercise helps, so every day at work, I took the stairs to the second floor instead of taking the elevator. I was pretty slow on those steps by the end of my treatments, but you know i just kept it up, I had a LOT of prayer support and that made a huge difference,

    Hi Charnell,

How are you? Thank you for your post. Sorry to hear that it took a while for you to receive the care you needed. I was diagnosed on 10/16/13 and from that moment, things happened really fast. I had a modified radical mastectomy (left breast) done on 11/04/13. One lymph node was also affected and removed the same day, and my port was installed. My surgeon did an awesome job and I recovered very well. Chemotherapy started three weeks after surgery, first 4 rounds of AC every other week and then 12 weekly rounds of Taxol which I will finish this coming Friday. Overall, chemo has not been a bad experience for me, not many side effects but now at the end of treatment a few things are bothering me and I need to report to my onc on Tuesday. I love the medical team that is taking care of me. They are very professional, loving and caring. God is good! Keep your faith up and always expect the best. We will get out of this journey stronger. Please keep me posted about your treatment/how you are doing. I will do the same. Praying for you! :0)

Hope this finds you in high spirits!
