Yes, the most nerve wracking times of the year. You have my prayers that you can sleep well, eat well, and not become crankified like me. Certain people in the family rub me raw to begin with-then this winter one showed up on scan day-I was trying to get out of the house, and she was trying to communicate, confess, and hug. Now people call for my schedule. I am not the model citizen. Sometimes something won't post. I dodn't have this trouble on other sites--Good luck

Greetings! I noticed that you have chosen to follow me. Thanks! One small warning, I do tend to be a bit sarcastic. But I'm a good cheerleader. If there is anyway I can be of assistance, please let me know. I hope things are going ok for you and your loved one. Wishing you both all the best.

I am so sorry that I never answered your last reply. Please let me know if you have any questions that I may be able to answer. One of your question was why the wait for surgery... My body needs to build up my white blood cells that chemo unfortunately, destroys. I will need all the white cells I can get to prevent infection post-surgery. Another reason that my chemo has been put on hold. Was reassured that stopping chemo during this time would not cause the cancer to spread. Was a little frightened by this but my body was due for a break. Given my past experience from surgery, surgeon at U of Penn is taking no chances. Wishing you all the best for you both! Try to keep in good spirits, though hard at times. Take one day at a time and find the little things that make you smile. Staying in good spirits is half the battle.

I had an NG tube for 8 days. I was scheduled for surgery on the 9th day. On day 8 my Dr came in stared at me for long time and then said "hell, let's take it out and see what happens". He had already pushed it longer than normal in an attempt to avoid surgery. The morning of my scheduled surgery, I passed gass. The whole hospital staff cheered. It was a long slow recovery from there but at least I avoided surgery. They really don't want to do surgery because it disturbs the intestines which can cause another bowel obstruction. I hope and pray for as good an out come for your husband. It is a horrible experiance for all involved. God bless you and your husband.
PS.I have since had two less serious obstructions which cleared by themselves.

I am so sorry for that diagnosis. What has your oncologist said about it? There are a lot of survivors on here that can give you lots of great advice. My husband was not. He also did not recover well from the surgery and was too ill to do more than one chemo treatment. Diagnosed in June, we had all of the family and friends come for his 62nd birthday picnic in July. He continued to decline, but the families that lived close enough to us helped us out daily. (He wanted to stay home.) Sept 30 he had a stroke which put him totally bedridden. He passed away at home Oct. 13, exactly 5 months from calling in sick. My advice is- HOPE (and pray) for the best, but prepare for the worst. I never will regret spending his last five months 24/7 with him. I also know he would not have liked living any longer in the condition he was in.

I sat here for 10 minutes wondering if I should push POST. But then I remembered how frustrated I was when all I read were posts from people who could actually do more than stumble from the bed to the bathroom. Sometimes real life sucks. I do pray the best for you and your partner. Be strong yourself and get a loving support system going for both of you.

I am also from NJ and was diagnosed with colorectal cancer last year. I will be 45 next month and have already been through surgeries. I had an ostomy, that has since been reversed. I was originally brought into Souhern Ocean Community Hospital and then transferred to Jersey Shore. Jersey Shore is amazing & the Dr.'s were awesome. I was since referred to the University of Penn since my cancer has since spread to my liver (1 tumor), cancer cells behind my bladder, and a tumor on my aortic vein. I have been there for a consultation and surgery is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of the year. My Oncologist in NJ is Dr. Evan Naylor. His practice is in Manahawkin. He is in a group. Another Dr. that practices with him is Dr. Chung. I was referred to the Univ of Penn since they are up on all the latest technology break throughs and have clinical trials. My surgery will include the cyber knife and chemo bath for my liver. I hope I was able to help in some way. If you have any questions, please let me know. Stay Stong fellow Jerseyan!!! You can beat this...

I see you mentioned Dr Najjia Mahmoud at Upenn in Philly. She was my surgeon back in March 2012. She has a calmness about her that helped when I felt like life was spiraling out of control.

Welcome to this site! So sorry that you need to be here though. I love your warrior wife instincts. I have been married 37 years and I have needed to be the warrior wife for the last four years for my dear hubby through heart surgery, prostate cancer and losing most of his site. Now he is being the warrior husband helping me with my war on colon cancer. I have to tell you the care givers job is harder and scarier. So I feel for you. Ask any questions you may have. No question is too stupid, embarrassing or personal. You will find answers. It's also a great place to vent and share all your fears when you feel overwhelmed and don't feel you can share it with your husband. By the way your name is great. I suspect you will get through this come h$ll or high water.

Hello and welcome, we are happy to have you with us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

    https://www.whatnext.com/conditions/cancer/colorectal-colon-cancer

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site. After you have an opportunity to look the site over and see what great things there are here, we encourage you to invite your friends, family or anyone you know that may be helped by the connections on WhatNext to join the site also.
