In regard to the white rice post, when I was having chemo chocolate (my favorite food) tasted just like DIRT. Now that was a bummer. Lol0July 2013

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question about lumpectomy. I agree if we can teach in this day and age we can survive a lumpectomy without issue : ). I appreciate your positive response!!0August 2013

Wanna know my visualizations during chemo?! Melvin the Superhero (one of Jeff Dunham's puppets - and if you haven't seen Jeff Dunham, you MUST!!!) leads the charge up my "Normandy Beach" (Ta-ta-da-DAAA!) followed by The Big Bang Theory's guys dressed up as the Justice League (another favorite of mine!) - my "A Team"!!
Meanwhile the big bad cancer cells are the frat boys at the pool hall, feeling up the girls, swillin' beer, bein' rowdy. And in bursts my "A Team"...and the cancer cells laugh and fall all over themselves...I mean, who would take THEM seriously, those nerds?!! BUT...we all know that the smart guys WIN in the end, because the cancer cells are STUPID!
I spent a LOT of time visualizing that, and giggling over it! Then, I would sing "Stand By Me" as I wheeled my infusion stand around the hall into the restroom...or other songs like that (my daughter came up with LOTS of them, but my sad chemo brain can't think of them, right now! If I do, I'll let you know!)
And (again, chemo brain) I really don't remember if you read this...or if I even sent it to you, but when I lost my hair, I felt like Uncle Fester, so I took a picture (several, in fact) of myself with a lightbulb in my mouth. And then, when I had my tracheostomy, I felt like I had a dog collar on, so I put my dog's leash on it and "took myself for a walk", and took a picture (...one of my friends said it looked like I was trying to hang myself...maybe not the image I was going for!!) - but THAT is how I deal with cancer!
Honestly, sometimes I feel like "Ten Second Tom" (from 50 First Dates movie), so if you read that a million times, please forgive me. My point is to be as silly as I can when dealing with cancer.
Thanks for helping me!! God bless you, and tolerating me probably repeating myself a bijillion times!
Keep your sense of humor. In fact, make it even BETTER. I am convinced that cancer HATES humor and joy. So laugh as much as you can. It relieves stress (cancer loves stress. I invited cancer in with a LOT of that!)
Hugs to you

I LOVE "Captain Chemo"!! Gives me an idea for another silly chemo session! I try to make each session as silly as I can, imagine goofy scenarios and try to laugh at cancer. Captain Chemo...I will let you know what I come up with!! Thanks so much! Hugs to you!0August 2013

To answer your qeustion I don't have an exact starting date for chemo yet but I think it will be around the 10th. I'm getting my echocardiogram, meeting with my oncologist and chemo class, and then my reproductive endocrinologist all on Wednesday just so I can be ready to start chemo. I'm so sorry that you have been diagnosed again but you won't let it win this time either!0August 2012

Herceptin has no side effects!? If it is so innocuous perhaps the onc would like to try it.0June 2013

Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans are used a lot in middle eastern and Indian cooking. here's a link to what they look like. If you've ever eaten humus, you had chickpea spread.

Unfortunately/fortunately? The constipation stopped and diarrhea moved in for a week. Ended up in the ER. Finally has stopped. Your diet and workouts sound like my pre-cancer life lol! Currently I am eating whatever I can manage to get down and "exercise" is if I make myself walk around the house for 10 min. at a time0March 2013

Ydnar2xer, my doctors did a Axillary Lymph Node dissection which means as few as 10 or as many as 40 are removed. I had cancer in my nodes when I was diagnosed w/Triple Negative Breast Cancer in September. So this is why they decided to do it this way.0March 2013

Glad I could make you smile. On May 31 I went to bed fine and the next day woke up with tingling and aching in my hands and feet. Dr had tests taken but nothing showed up but he put me on Cymbalta. But what I did to help was take socks and cut the bottom off and soak my hands and feet in warm water and then wrap the socks around hands and feet. By keeping them warm it seemed to help and at least kept me from crying half the night. The hot pepper cream just seemed to make it worst. The cancer was not found until three months later so don't know if it had anything to do with the neuropathy. Sometimes I feel like that pain makes me more upset than the cancer. Hope Tuesday goes good for you.0November 2012

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. It is hard, but you are a warrior and you will make it. How are you feeling today?
If you haven't already, I strongly recommend you add a naturopath oncologist to your team. The vitamins and things they recommend help with the side effects and your energy. And you are taking some control of what happens to you so you feel less like a victim. Anything I could do to gain some control made me feel better emotionally. If I had to do it over again I would make this part of my routine from day one.0November 2012 -
Hello! I wanted to say hello. In reading a question related to faith, I noticed that you are a nonbeliever, as am I. I live in the bible belt and don't come across many, particularly in the chemo room! No atheists in foxholes and all that. Hope you are well.

Totally agree with you about Breast being highly overrated. When I first got my breast cancer diagnosis I said "take them both now" - Fibroids, cysts, DDD cups who needs this grief. Unfortunately those little kidney cancer lesions on my liver made anything more then a lumpectomy out of the option. So now I have 5 little (but now shrinking) kidney cancer lesions and one rim cell breast cancer (shrinking) lesion on my liver. Do you think this is because I really like chopped liver and liver w/onions0October 2012

Hi,
I have read your journey, you sure have been through a lot! Such a great positive attitude! I have not had any surgery yet, they want me to complete 6 months of chemo first. I am almost done with the taxol & herceptin regimen which is weekly. Yes, I have headaches, nosebleeds, hot flashes & rash on my face & behind ears.My hair also thinned out so much that I had my son just buzz me. I will start another round of chemo on Halloween Day which is the scary red juice with some other cocktails mixed in which will be every 3 weeks for a total of 3 months.
I will have to make some decisions too about surgery. Is there anything you can share about your double mastecomy & have you made any decisions regarding reconstruction?
Stay strong!0October 2012 -
I know gaining weight is such a bummer. I need to lose at least 40 lbs, and instead I gained 6. The only time Benadryl put me to sleep, was when I received it through the IV as a pre treatment medication. I loaded a a lot of calm meditative music on to my iPod, which I listen to through pillow speakers to help me unwind at night. If you are interested I can e-mail (as attachments) or send you some on a flash drive and see if it helps.0October 2012

Hi Ydnar2xer! I hope you get some quality sleep soon. The picture is called a sand mandala. It's a Buddhist symbol http://youtu.be/KyqVDewZ2kU?t=6s0October 2012

Awesome! My house is the palace of fuzz.. fleece, blankets, pillows, hats, cats, socks, and pants! I'm ready for winter!!
I'm sorry you're losing your pink 'do. I wanted to collect all of my hair scraps and do something creative; then, in a fit of anguish, I shaved it all off and vacuumed my whole house on a prednisone flurry. I guess I was trying to hold on to it as much as possible.. losing my hair was a weird experience for me-- I'm so sure it is for you too!
Time to collect hats! Sparkly leopard print ones sound pretty comforting!0October 2012 -
picture posted of the dog nips...this time it was only 6 because I screwed one up.

It was 8 nipples total, 4 down each side. We laughed and laughed!0October 2012

Need your help. I am trying to dye my chin whiskers pink for breast cancer awareness month. I bleached my hair on Friday and dyed it purple for the Relay for Life. It got canceled because of rain so I bleached it again to get the purple out. This was on Sunday. By last night, the hair was really orange. I tried to put the pink dye on and it's not taking very well. You can also still see the orange through the pink. When I put the bleach in to get the purple out I left it in for about 5 minutes. I don't think I left it in long enough. Any advice you can give would be awesome. Do you know if I should use a toner or protein enhancer? I know NOTHING about hair products as I've been bald since I was in my teens....Thanks Ydnar2xer0October 2012
