3 years cancer free but I worry constantly about it coming back somewhere else and that we don't find it until it's too late. Iwas told that they'd be checking me every three months but it has only been every 6 months and that makes me nervous. I am getting an infusion of Zometa at each appointment to keep it from going into my bones but I still worry about it going somewhere else.

Congratulations on reaching your 3 year milestone! I have TNBC too and have 5 months to go before I get to my 3 year mark. I'm looking forward to it!

The worry about recurrence never goes away for me as well, but I understand that most recurrences happen during the first few years after diagnosis. The farther you get out from diagnosis, the lower the risk of recurrence becomes. So, at 3 years, you're not worry-free, but your risk is going down with each passing day.

I "graduated" to 6 month check ups this year, from the 3 month interval during the first year. One of the most important reasons for the check ups is to see if you're having any long term adverse effects from treatment. Thus, the closer you are to having had treatment, the more check ups.

Also, the farther out you are from diagnosis, the lower the risk for recurrence. Hence, follow ups are spaced farther apart.

My team encourages me to be vigilant for any possible signs of recurrence, not only in the breasts, but especially in the brain, lungs or liver. So, in a way, I'm always doing my own check ups. Here's a good reference for signs of possible recurrence. https://www.lbbc.org/learn/living-breast-cancer/signs-recurrence

I'd be the last person to ever advise you not to worry about recurrence, but I'd be the first person to encourage you to celebrate your 3 year milestone and to have heartfelt gratitude that you've made it!

Thank you for the link and encouragement! I'm not usually a worrier but it seems like I keep hearing about other people whose cancer has returned and it's always on my mind

Congrats and keep up the good work!

If you have a headset, start this music and put one ear piece on each side of your torso, then crank it up to full blast and relax while it plays. It's called "diurnal beats" and is the next great thing for cancer treatment - being researched like crazy.

I can't attest to cancer, but I had a dull throb in the area between my left kidney and hip. I did this for 2 days in a row. Next thing I know, a few days later my urine was root beer brown. At the appointment time, 3 days later, I took a sample and there was sediment at the bottom, like large salt crystals, only they were purple. The doc and I think kidney stones were broken up with the vibrations. A week later I learned that's how they break up kidney stones - vibration.

Nothing in the universe is solid, and what we think is solid, like a keyboard, is mostly space! Quantum physics. It all makes logical sense.
