This is my third bout with cancer, my second with esophageal cancer. I had to have a laryngectomy as well as a gastric pull up with this one as the tumor was to high to be reached by any other means. My lymph nodes were all clear and I only had follow up radiation after surgery.

I was able to retire from being an educator and qualified for disability with both Social Security and the state teachers pension. I was also fortunate to have LTD insurance which will pay for 4 years.

I was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991 followed by mastectomy with reconstruction, chemotherapy and radiation. In 2008, I was diagnosed with an early esophageal cancer that was resolved by chemo-radiation. I began having a sore throat, then problems swallowing in late 2018 and was subsequently diagnosed with esophageal cancer again. I had no risk factors for esophageal cancer. Perhaps radiation induced... We will never know.
