I finished all my treatments both chemotherapy and radiation 6 weeks ago and my burns have healed but I still feel burning on my neck. How long does the radiation stay in my neck and when will it stop burning?

Hi, I'm meyati. I had pushing the envelope radiation for a rare head cancer. It started out as an odd BCC that doctors ignored for almost 30 years, and it morphed. I wasn't a tobacco user, and I seldom was around smokers. They tried this radiation on 2 other people, and they died from the radiation. They don't do it anymore. I've lived in uranium country, and I somehow built a tolerance to it. That's the only thing I can think of.

All a person can do is to try to relax. .I know. Are you using Aquaphore on the radiation area? That helps a lot. Don't let it dry out. Also heat and cold dries it out and makes it feel like it's burning.. The chemo and radiation affect the little blood vessels and the nerves. I like to break codes. I did big jigsaw puzzles to focus on things other than me. That can be hard when your mind is spinning like a windmill. I didn't need any tranquilizers during or after my treatment, but I needed help after I left my abusive husband, moved to a new city. Are there any exercise you can do to stretch.?

It took almost 6 months before I could get socks and shoes on in less than an hour-at first it took about 2 hours. One sock on and get my equilibrium back. 2 weeks ago, I was up on a step ladder installing new ceiling lights. I don't if anybody told you, but sometimes it feels like sunlight is attacking you when you are in a car's front seat. I thought I was going crazy. The chaplain told me this does happen to lots of head radiation patients. Another thing with the mouth and throat is sometimes you are just achy and sore. Greg and I ate-Greg is in the pic below the videos on the right of your monitor. Anyway, mashed potatoes with a good gravy helps to comfort, is easy to swallow and seems to make the stomach happy. Greg said that stopped working as much, and I turned him to torn up bread with a good gravy. He said that he was surprised how well that worked. I know it hard to sleep when your skin and muscles are burning.
