What's planting?

Okay, Michigan is not really in "planting mode" right now...since doggone SNOW is predicted for tomorrow...but I am going to plant some herb seeds in pots today. I need to do it today because I am *one of those* who plant according to the moon (oh yes, I do!) Once a neighbor and I both rototilled spaces in our yards for a garden and she put her seeds in that day. I waited three days until the moon was in a favorable sign. She laughed at me until I had sprouts...and she did NOT. So, yes, I believe it. (she does too, NOW) The next good days to plant are the 24th and 25th, so I am saving my French Iris bulbs until then. Does anyone use gardening to ease their stress? I do until it gets away from me and CAUSES stress...then my garden is on its own. But, I do love to plant, marigolds, zinnias and nasturtiums (although my nasturtiums always get so leggy...anyone have a solution for that?

We have an early planting season here on the southern coast of NC, so we have already planted tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, squash, zucchini, lavender and marigolds. The mosquitoes don’t like those marigolds and lavender plants, natural repellent! Can’t wait for fresh veggies! Especially heirloom tomatoes! Grocery store tomatoes in the winter are terrible! Where do they come from? A greenhouse in another country? Ugh!

I had to cover my Delphiniums which were just coming up (not flowering of course) tonight for the snow & hard freeze coming. (MarcieB & I live close to each other in MI.)
Also planting seedlings inside till the weather warms.
I have GIANT sunflower seedlings coming up-- they will grow to 12 feet high, if I can keep critters off of them. Also wonderful cantelope seedlings-- Miss kitty got one batch for lunch though!
