What are planning for 4th of July?

We're staying home, and I'm going to grill us a flat iron steak. We live in Georgia, and the COVID-19 cases are surging all over the state. What are your plans?

    We'll be staying home too. The virus is also going crazy here in Texas. Around here, I believe all fireworks displays have been canceled anyway.

    How do you grill the flat iron steak? I'm thinking I might fix pork ribs on the grill... Haven't really thought about it too much yet...

    If it wasn't for the TV telling us it's the 4th and being online, we wouldn't know it's the 4th, and for us, nothing is going to change, the same as today, and most any other day. We aren't having anyone over for the first time in about 10 years. So, pretty boring, like I said, like any other day. I'll probably make something. We won't be eating much, my throat is killing me and eating is becoming an issue.

    One of our local Fire Departments always does a chicken bar-b-que on the 4th. I will check it out. IF I witness physical distancing and IF people are wearing masks I will proceed. IF I don't see acceptable procedures in place I am out of there fast. Plan B will probably be grilling something on the firepit.

    Greg, can you manage things like ice cream or popsicles or jello? So sorry your throat is so sore. I cannot even imagine.

    Spiffed up the barbecue, so it will be DW's famous chicken burgers. However, as least part of the day will be spent in prayer for a co-worker of 30 years. After being told several times that he was just constipated, they found that he has pancreatic metastasized to his lungs. He has already been to SCCA in Seattle, so the best that can be done is being done. It all does temper the festivities...

    For those of you who haven't grilled a flatiron steak, it's easy. I season with Montreal Steak Season and marinade for about an hour in Balsamic Vinegar and a little olive oil. Then I grill at medium high heat for about 7-8 minutes each side (that's for one that weighs about a lb.)

    POguy so sorry for your friend. It's terrible that people are still being misdiagnosed with simple things like that when they have sometimes severe cancer diagnoses. Especially with the technology available today to make a diagnosis.

    What will be cooking? We will do something simple, I'm not up to doing much other than plain burgers and chicken.

    @po18guy, I sure am sorry to hear about your friend. That's tough news.

    @JaneA, thanks for the recipe on the flatiron steak! I need to see if I can find one and try it one of these days! It sounds really good!

    @GregP_WN, I'm sure sorry to hear how badly your throat is hurting. I hope it is temporary and a sign that you've got some real healing going on in there!

    @Bengal, yes, I have been eating jello a lot lately, since this started. Years ago after one surgery I woke up in the recovery room and a nurse wanted to know how I was and did I want anything to eat or drink. The guy in the next bed had some milk and a jello cup. I don't know why, but I had to have it. I've been eating lots of jello and drinking lots of milk ever since then.

    Live, I am convinced it's related to the treatment working. This morning I have nowhere near the pain I've had in the last couple of weeks. Maybe, just maybe, this stuff is working already like I've seen reports of from other people.

    Kudos to the St Regis Falls, NY Volunteer Fire Department! My sister and I went about noon to check out the chicken bar-b-que. I expect to find hoards of unmasked locals crowding around the serving area. We were pleasantly surprised to find a drive - up only, curbside service, no one gets out of their car, EVERYONE in masks , smoothly run operation. All the service people were masked, polite and when I asked how much we owed was informed that everything was free, their thanks to the community. Awesome job folks. That's how it's done.
