It was interesting to read this to see how much progress has been made in some areas, yet some things never change.

I have some older family that had treatment 40 and 20 years ago. They keep asking me questions about how did I react when they nurse "done this" or "that". I tell them that my nurse didn't do that and they are amazed at how different my treatment is. So, I'm sure things have changed a lot, like everything else in the world.

If I had been diagnosed even a year or two earlier, I would have probably faced the exact same ineffective treatment that my dad got back in 1977. In truth, that is basically what I started out with (at least in part). Fortunately, about the same time as I was diagnosed, immunotherapy was in clinical trials and genetic testing was about to take off and become common and affordable. Treatments have evolved a lot since the time I was diagnosed in 2012 - so many wonderful advances have been made and survival rates, though still terrible, are improving a lot.
