Have you ever noticed that when you're in the car headed to or from treatments, check ups, scan, etc

An the subject in the song usually doesn't make it? So this got me thinking, how many songs are there that talk about cancer, in a positive or negative way/outcome in the song? Let's see how many we can come up with.
Here are two that were on the radio this afternoon:
Kenny Chesney "The Good Stuff"
Tim McGraw "Live Like You Were Dying"

That Tim McGraw song still gets me - on several levels.
Bucket lists are a "hot button" for me - us cancer patients and survivors often have unrealistic bucket lists. We want a dream vacation to a place far away - not only financially impossible for many of us, but now impossible because of the pandemic. We want a beach house. We want our family to have FABULOUS times together, now impossible because of the pandemic and long term impossible because all family members don't always see eye-to-eye.
I try to find simple pleasures in every day because life goes on 365 days a year, and it's important to enjoy the life that we're struggling to save. We may have new limitations, but life is beautiful and meaningful if we just look around us. We can all still make a difference to someone or something (a pet or a cause).0 -
One I have always loved is Overcomer, by Mandisa.0

I like Martina McBride's "I'm Gonna Love You Through It." I would say this one deals with it in a positive way- much more from the caregiver's point of view though. It's encouraging. One of my friends played it for me, and it made me tear up when she did. That doesn't take much though.
Some songs, though not specifically about cancer, that have been my staples?
Oh My Soul- Casting Crowns
Even If- Mercy Me
God's Not Done With You- Tauren Wells
Hills & Valleys- Tauren Wells
Unstoppable-Sia
Blessings- Laura Story (her husband had a brain tumor) * This one has been one of the ones I keep on a loop lately due to this crazy world that has imposed on us in 2020.0 -
Oh, @legaljen1969, I love that Martina McBride song, too! I forgot about it! And, you Oh My Soul and Even If ... and yes!!! Blessings!!!! I don't know the other ones you listed but will have to go listen because it seems that we find the same kind of songs comforting! (I did a Bible study with Laura Story. It was really good.)0

@LiveWithCancer, Unstoppable by Sia is a pop song. It's probably not all that "pop" but it's on a playlist someone sent to me called my "Beautiful Girls Playlist." Lots of great tunes on that playlist. I have lots of encouraging songs.
Most of my encouraging songs were the things I put on a playlist just before my father had quadruple bypass surgery several years ago. I really didn't know what was going to happen to him, but I found some faith based songs and walked for about an hour every day on the treadmill and just zoned out letting the words become part of me.

Some good songs, some I haven't heard, others are classic cancer songs. What else?0

I Run For Life by Melissa Ethridge is a favorite of mine. All of those already listed are great too!0

I thought of another song. "There is a God" by Reba McIntyre. One of my yoga instructors played it the other evening during savasana. It was definitely one of those savanas where the tears flowed and I let go of a LOT. I haven't had one like that in awhile.
I think I am going a little sideway from "cancer songs" but these are more of my "fight songs."
"Rise Up"- Andra Day
"Breathin'"- Ariana Grande
" A Reason to Fight"- Disturbed
"Glitter in the Air"- Pink
"The Story"- Brandi Carlile (The first time I heard this song was when Janice Freeman performed it on The Voice. Janice was a cancer survivor who has since gone to be with God far from her earthly troubles, but the fact she was the first person I ever heard perform the song- that's what makes it a "cancer song" to me.)
And the one that makes me smile and think of @GregP_WN and Sweetie every time I hear it now "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers. I think it's such a hopeful song, but it makes me think of what a great team they are.
"Even Though I'm Leaving"- Luke Combs. This song is not particularly a "cancer" song but it was the one that came on just after I found out one of my favorite people had gone on to be with God, free from her cancer struggle. I know she is still with us through hundreds of little "God winks"-whether pennies from heaven, cardinals visiting outside my window, or the fact that this song comes on almost every time I think of her.
"Only One and Only You"- Steven Curtis Chapman. I want everyone to hear this song and play it in your moments of doubt until it becomes part of your heart and soul. Until you hear it bubble up to the top of your consciousness on the days you may feel less than beautiful, adequate or whatever negative feeling you may feel. Remember, you ARE the only one and only you. No-one else adds whatever you add to this world.

Foo Fighters - There Goes My Hero. Sweetie says she thinks of me. That's why she's "Sweetie".0

I love the song, Alive and Breathing, by Matt Maher.
And it has come on the KLOVE radio just when I'm waking up and getting the coffee on. : )
Check it out.0 -
These are a few I've been listening to.
Don't Stop Believing - Journey
Cancer - My Chemical Romance
Hold On by Greg Lizee, Ph.D.
“Hold on. I can feel it getting better. Hold on. Be strong. Can you feel it getting better?”
This is one of the inspirational songs for cancer patients that is written by an associate professor in MD Anderson’s Department of Melanoma Medical Oncology for his friend, who was also battling cancer. The message of the song is about being hopeful and optimistic.
