Port put in- cough with blood

My father had a port put in yesterday because he begins chemo tomorrow. He coughs frequently, but today when he was coughing, blood is coming up. He put a call to his doctor and nurse said the oxygen from his procedure yesterday could dry things out and therefore blood. Anyone else have this happen? Thanks!

I'm so sorry he's facing that.
I did not have any blood after having my port put in.
I hope the "simple explanation" he was given is correct and that he'll be okay ASAP.
Good luck to him!0 -
That's too bad he is having issues. usually, a port is a non-eventful thing. I had two of them, the first one stopped working and had to be replaced. The second one stayed with me for 15 years before I would let it go. But, as always, there can always be some crazy thing that comes up. Most of the time these issues are taken care of pretty easily. We hope he gets it cleared up pretty quickly.0

Hopefully this will clear itself up. I never heard of this happening. It the bleeding doesn't stop in a timely fashion I would be back in that phone!0
