I see these adds on TV for new drugs for cancer

It makes me feel like my chances are not good for survival unless I am on one of them. Do you ever have that feeling?

I pretty much ignore cancer related ads on TV, going so far as switching channels when they come on. I find them misleading, offering people false or unrealistic hope, and present people who have cancer in completely unrealistic ways. I know some of these drugs are great and have helped some people but I prefer to get drug recommendations from my doctor not from a TV ad.0

All of those ads for for women with metastatic breast cancer - they are not used for women with other stages of breast cancer - and they are not appropriate for every woman with metastatic breast cancer.
So don't worry about that. I have always trusted my oncology team. As long as your oncologist is following the NCCN recommended treatment, you are being treated appropriately.0 -
If the ads are making you feel that way, they are doing the job they are supposed to be doing ... creating customer interest in their product.
I don't know that I support advertising of drugs. Most of us are not medically trained and we don't honestly know what prescription drugs are best for our situations. I choose to trust my doctor to do what is absolutely best for me. But, if you are so compelled, ask your doctor and see if he or she will tell you why that drug is or is not a good one for you.
Good luck!0 -
Best to focus on the fight - for the gift of life which we have received so that we can love and be loved. BTW, I do not watch TV. Too depressing0

As LiveWithCancer said, if the ads make you feel that way then they are doing their jobs. Best to work closely with your doctor for your specific situation.0

I agree with everyone. I first saw the ad for Ibrance of the woman bouncing across the street saying that MBC was relentless, but so am I. I can tell you that wasn't me on 125mg of Ibrance. Fake news, I thought. I was thankful that it shrunk my nodule after the previous drug failed, but I was not bouncing across the street. I did well, so Dr. lowered dosage to 100mg. Still did great so now on 75mg maintenance dosage. Yes, I'm now bouncing across the street. It took me a year to get where the commercial advertised. Trust your Dr. & keep the lines of communication open.0
