Does anyone have experience with Velcade?

Side effects, efficacy, overall success with it? Failure? Doctor is suggesting it so I'm wondering how it has been for others.

That is one of the few blood cancer drugs that I did not receive. Honestly, there is only one way of finding out. The numbers, the experiences of others may be interesting, but can also be a double-edged sword. Since Myeloma can be a challenge, taking some risks in treatment are almost required. However, it has shown efficacy against Myeloma, so it is certainly worth a try.
Do you have a second opinion on treatment? Strongly advised when one has a rare or difficult malignancy. A lot of progress has been made just recently and it is almost unheard of for a single doctor to possess all of the latest data.0 -
I have asked about getting one. Another doctor is getting back to us with a date I can get in to see him.0

My husband was given Velcade as part of his initial treatment for myeloma. I think that was associated with swelling/edema in his feet and ankles and they reduced the dosage. All I can say is that within several months of diagnosis and treatment, his myeloma was in remission. So, yes there were side effects, and yes it was effective as part of the overall treatment plan.0

Just fyi for everyone. In cases like this where you need information about a particular drug or treatment, experience with anything, click on the experiences tab at the top of the page, then type in the drug name in the search box and you will get every conversation or experience anyone has posted about that drug, experience, test, or issue. It's a powerful tool for getting the information you need while you are waiting for others to answer with current information0

@Bloodproblems If you are not currently at a National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center, I strongly urge you to consult at one for that second opinion. It can be a life saver. Making such a move has saved my life at least three times - probably four. In the US, you may find the nearest center here:

I had Velcade along with Rev and Dex weekly during induction. After my SCT I had REV only for maintenance but am in first relapse after 5 years and am about to start Darzalex with Velcade and Dex. Velcade was given as an injection in my stomach. I've heard some develop a rash at the injection site, but I never had that or any other adverse reaction to it. It helped me have a successful induction so I could move to SCT, so I'd say I had a positive experience with it. All the best to you!0
