One of my local TV stations has a segment they are running every hour on the hour

They call it your Coronavirus Update. It's an update about the number of cases in our area. It seldom changes, but the number keeps going up because of all the new testing being done. I think it does more harm than good because some people are just sitting around stressing over it.

I am limiting my TV viewing of coronavirus news. One update a day is enough.

I am also limiting how much news I am watching on tv. We have turned on air-come like The Big Bang theory, and older shows like the Addams Family just to have lighter things to watch.
I am just over a week from having my knee replaced so I have been watching lighter shows and knitting and reading to keep myself going.

Some of these networks want to beat it to death in hopes of getting a piece of the viewership pie.

I'm all for having information, but you can just tell by the way that some of these are delivering it that they are just out to air another "virus piece". Don't break into my favorite show to give me an "update" about something that the national news just said.

We've all heard of the pandemic. I like to call it the "panicdemic." Anyway, what is actually epidemic in the US is anxiety. 1 in 5 suffer from some form of anxiety - 64 million Americans. 24/7 Corona coverage with on-going death tolls is NOT helping one bit. I do not watch TV. Remember books? Ah....that's better.

    Precaution, not paranoia.

I have limited my news intake as well. Constant updates produce a lot of anxiety.

I obsessively watch the local news. Because if I didn't my imagination would run away and my panic would no longer be functional. I do watch some national news but when it becomes vindictive and name calling I turn it off. I have never been able to watch Trump because his voice annoys me. So I don't watch his press conferences. I also read. There are some very good news articles.
An example of how my imagination can run wild when I am not focusing on the situation. It was a beautiful clear day so I went out on the balcony. I looked around and saw Mt Rainier. My mind went to "what if Mt Rainier decided to blow its top during the pandemic. Then I thought about the Cascadia Fault ( they had an earthquake in Salt Lake City a couple of days ago) You can see where my mind goes when I am not focused. Viewing the news keeps me focused and somewhat aware of situation. Also it keeps from going the other way of being in denial.
I have been doing Bible Study reading because out Bible Study group can no longer meet
All in all the news keeps me from going stir crazy

I am also more involved in the epidemic because my handicapped brother is in quarantine because he came in contact with an infected person.

Well Boise, you might be safe with watching the national news this weekend as "someone" usually plays golf then!

I just wish that "someone" would drop his phone in the toilet. We all could use a little "social distancing" from his twitter stream, which the national media is more than happy to repeat. I don't tweet. But I am on Facebook and I follow CNN. They posted a picture of Trump's last newsrant. There were only 3 persons on the podium and none were medical personnel. I did not click on that post.
Actually I am in another panic mode. With the Salt Lake City, I have been obsessing about the Cascadia Fault. When it comes to panic I can really multitask. Of course if I hadn't been watching the news my fear of earthquakes would not have been triggered. On the bright side with everything shut down there will be no mass shootings.

Politicizing this issue helps no-one. If anything, it should show us that none of them care about us at all. If the news suddenly said there was a magic treatment and all of this could go away, you can guarantee both sides would come together to pass legislation that all of the senators and congresspeople could get their treatment and all of the rest of us could go take a long walk off a short pier.
They are only in this to hear themselves talk and to see how much press time they can get. They all disgust me.
Hear me now when I say that if God on high said that a cure for all cancers could be rained down over the earth if our legislature could get their s*** together, we would still all perish. They are not interested in helping constituents at all. They don't care about any of us.

Since being dxed in 2016, I focused on what I can change. Everyone is dealing with their new normal, but this is my normal. I tape the news & fast forward through the repeat stuff. I also got to the local station site & read what is new. Granted, I'm in front of my laptop a lot, but it isn't depressing me. I also send notes/cards to people. I sew so several have asked me to make them a face mask. I've found lots of things to do instead of whining.
