Have you noticed being more sensitive to spicey food since you started or finished treatments?

I can't tolerate anything even on the mild side of hot anymore. I guess it's from the radiation burning my throat, or perhaps the chemo irritated the lining of my esophagus? I'm not sure what did it but I can't handle anything hotter than plain old black pepper any more.

I love spicy food. From my first chemo treatment I was unable to eat spicy food because it caused physical pain. This persisted through my entire treatment process. It took about 6 weeks after treatment ended until I could begin eating spicy food. It was amazing at how grateful I was when I could tolerate spices again. However, I find that it can still cause pain if the spice is too intense. Good luck on progressing to be able to enjoy spicy food again.

I can't even eat cracked pepper anymore. I’m hoping that it will pass...it started when I was doing chemo, which finished over a year ago. I guess it’s a small price to pay, but I do miss spicy foods.

I'm not understanding - what radiation burned your throat since you have colorectal cancer? You might have small mouth sores that extend down into your esophagus.

All of us react differently. My favorite bland, comfort foods tasted horrible to me on FOLFOX, and I craved spicy foods. Go figure. Hopefully, this will resolve after treatment.

We often stopped for Mexican food after my chemo treatments so I guess i wasn't bothered much by spicy foods. I hope you will be able to enjoy spices again soon.

My chemo really upset my stomach. I lived on bland foods throughout treatment. It got really boring after awhile but it was all I could toletate. It was so great to regain toleration for some "good stuff" after I was finally finished but I find I still have to take it easy. I used to be able to eat just about anything. Can't do that anymore.

Jane, you are right, I had no radiation to the upper throat, I was just thinking since it's all connected that it may have affected my upper GI. Shoot, it seems like everything from my toes to my hair is affected somehow. Thanks for all your feedback. I have been trying Omeprazole and plain old Pepto which seems to help if I take it before.
