ChicagoSandy, I cannot thank you enough for your post in response to our friend who is wondering about having a bilateral mastectomy. I now clearly understand why is is important to take the aromatase inhibitors. When my doctor told me I would have to take them I really questioned her, but the most she said was that studies showed it reduced the odds of recurrence. I really like knowing exactly how that happens and I wish she had told me. But, YOU did, and now I know. And now I feel better about taking this stupid pill which is thinning my hair and giving me some aches...I understand and it is worth it, and I am grateful for it. Thank you!0March 2021 -
Hi Sandy,
Did you go on aromatase inhibitors as part of your treatment? I am 61, Stage 1, HER2 Positive: No, ER Positive: Yes, PR Positive: Yes, BRCA negative, Oncotype 27. I had "light" chemo over the summer an 3 months out from delayed DEIP flap reconstructive surgery. I went to a naturopath because I don't like the idea of the aromatase inhibitors; my general feeling is that your body becomes immune and oncologists cannot track that. The naturopath ordered a DUTCH test (dutchtest.com) and I think that the results seem like they would be good data points to determine whether the AI would really help. Any thoughts or experience? Thanks!0November 2019 -

In all honesty, I'm still quite ignorant on the stages thing. My Drs haven't told me what stage I'm in. I know it's early. Very confused!0May 2019

Thanks for sharing with us. I doubt that it cleared anything up but you tried. I was lucky, my family doctor and his wife were Jewish, and I had a Jewish grandma. My father was an 11 year old homeless kid, during the Depression, and her husband took my father home. They even hired a detective and found his 2 bothers.
They were real strict, but we talked love-not religion.0October 2018 -
Good luck, ChicagoSandy. The surgery sounds atrocious. I hope it will be much better than anticipated. Will be thinking of you and hoping for the best during this unpleasant time.0July 2018

Actually, as sorry as I am for you in you travails, I also did not quite understand what you were trying to communicate. I understand you fell and hurt yourself. Did you use your wrists to try to break your fall? The difference in length on your forearms, being only 1/16 of an inch shouldnt be too significant. Breasts arent the same size left & right, faces are dlightly different from left side to right side and legs can slighter differ in length as well. Apparently, we are made to tuck and roll.
Your story had such an effect on me that I dreamed last night about someone falling .. It was, um, unpleasant and shocking. Really hope you heal quickly.0July 2018 -
Hi! I had no idea the term 'Gypsy' was a slur. Thank you for correcting me.
Im afraid we still disagree about the term 'Ashkenazi'. Jews have a an ancient but common bond unless they are later converts. There is evidence of intermarriage not only from the diaspora but from the original exile from Egypt and futher back than that as well.
To the best of my knowledge (which, admittedly, may not be much), Jews have been intermarrying for ages. They even found an African tribe on the Southern West Coast of Africa which keeps certain Jewish traditions and uses a Star of David and other Hebrew symbols in its art. I think our forebears may have been sailors as well as everything else.
Geneticists have been exploring mostly through the male line while Jews recognize matriarchal roots. I dont exactly know what this means but I do know it accounts for a difference. Ask your hubby, if you would.
Lastly, the subgrouping of Jews is a recent phenomenon. I do believe it was the Nazis who popularized it (just after the war) in order the either create conflict within the Jewish community or prejudice other populations further against Jews. They succeeded quite nicely too and on both counts.
Themom was all upset but our side conversation so I am moving it here. Hope you will find it and respond.
Best wishes0April 2018 -
That's exactly what I asked. All prevention, though it too causes cancer. Yes, tamoxifen causes cancer. Pharmaceutical must make big bucks,, and drs. too on cancer treatments.0February 2018

Chicago Sandy,
I cannot believe I have, or have not, asked you about where you live in Chicago. I was born and raised in Chicago and lived in the city for 28 years, and then lived in the suburbs for another 20 years before moving to the East-Coast. I love Chicago and miss the city, but not the Winters...ooohhh the cold, snowy, city. I don't know if you know why it is called the "Windy-City." Oh it can be windy, but in this part of New Jersey it is more windy. Chicago was called the "Windy City" because of the winded politicians. More people in Chicago don't know where the name came from, but more so than not. I lived in the city for 20 years between Cicero Ave., and Pulaski, (Crawford Ave), and from Foster Ave. to Montrose. All within those streets, before moving to the Suburbs of Chgo...first to Wheaton, West Chgo, Naperville, and then Arlington Hts. Then to New Jersey for 25 years now...12 miles outside of Atlantic City.
My best to you Chicago Sandy...

I'm still doing my best not to mention the lost limo, not knowing how to make hotel reservations, and having Ivanka take Trump's place at a G20 meeting.0July 2017

Some say that was idea all along-follow the peoples will-get a good control of Congress--get rid of Trump- Get Pence, a really hardliner.
I know how Pence put certain voter registration center under investigation, and Indiana state police too all records, including the voters' registrations-- 45,00o for sure0November 2016 -
ChicagoSandy, I just had to say I enjoyed your comment about baseball in Brooklyn way back when. I, too, am a native Brooklynite (still there), around your age, and I remember the Dodgers when it was redundant to call them "the Brooklyn Dodgers." Not that I was a baseball fan as a kid (or now, either). You brought back memories! Thank you.0October 2016

I'm glad that you were able to find a way of having some physical boob comfort during treatment. I often wondered about chafing during radiation. That's one problem that I didn't have with my face. I'm really glad that it worked out for you.0March 2016
