I am newly diagnosed with DCIS, but now, after lumpectomy was informed I have IDS. My treatment plan is for radiation and a hormone inhibitor. since my IDS is micro invasive, it has been advised I do a biopsy of a few sentinel lymph glands. I am afraid of edema in my arm. did you have lymph node biopsy?

Hi Merle, I am also newly diagnosed (aug 9th) with IDC.

Ever since that date I have been reading, reading, and doing more reading to educate myself. Ask questions from this and other websites. Empower yourself with knowledge and it really does help to relieve anxiety & stress.

I had a handful of questions when I met with the Dr's and I was able to make an informed decision as to which Dr to use. Just so happens the one that made me the most comfortable was also the one who had access to all the new gadgets, etc....

My surgery is the 20th. Have decided to use the SAVI devise if nodes are not affected. And to have a bilateral if nodes are affected.

In the end it will be you to decide all paths to go, just remember you are the patient and no one should push you into any decisions you don't want to make.

Hi Merle. I am sorry you've had to join the "sisterhood." I was diagnosed at Stage I, HER@+, ER/PR+ in December 2012. I know how scary this is. Feel free to ask any question, express any feeling. It is doable. One step, one day at a time.

Welcome to the site. I think that you will find this a friendly place to come when you need to sound off or vent from anger. We are all here to listen and help, if we can, because at some point and time in each of our lives we have been in your situation. Please don't be afraid to ask questions either. No question on this site is silly or dumb. We all have questions we would like other opinions on or answers to. There are so many nice people here that it has helped me get through my fears I had when I was DX'd with DCIS. Good luck in the future.

Hello and welcome, we are glad you found us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.
