Hi cyndilou, I read in another thread that you recently had the DIEP and was curious how you're feeling. I am scheduled for 4/30 and am interested in hearing anything you'd like to share about your experience. I'm very nervous.

Also, I read your journey and it looks like we have very similar timing as far as diagnosis & treatment goes.

Hope everything is going well and you have a speedy recovery.

Thanks CyndiLou for your answer. I agree you need to stay active. I try to run daily or do something. I am also getting my reconstruction in Nov. I thought I would enjoy the summer, my last Herceptin is July 11, 2014.

My hair is also coming back in gray (with a few silvers tossed in here and there) It wasn't gray before and I'm ready to dye it. I like bald better than fuzzy gray fur. yuck! Hoping this is only temporary...

Hi, Cyndilou...I read your post to my question - thanks so much for responding! As to the radiation, I would say my blistering started at about week 5 our of 6 and 1/2. My rad onc and his staff more or less expected this, since I am very fair skinned and have a history of sunburning easily. The most challenging part was during the last 5 days, when they were boosting my scars - once the blisters opened, it was pretty uncomfortable. They started me out using 100% aloe gelly; when the skin areas opened, I was moved to Silvadene cream twice a day, which has been used for burn care for many years. I was reassured that, once the treatments stopped, the skin would repair itself very quickly, which I found to be true...at one point, I was pretty much wide open from my breastbone all the way around to my armpit. Now, a month out of radiation, I only have a very small area right at my scar line still healing, and I have no pain. You'll want to talk to you rad onc about when you can resume your reconstruction...but I would say that they are going to want to give your skin some time to heal before sending you back to the PS. Merry Christmas, my friend!

    Namaste, Christine

Question about the Vit A - so did you take it daily, once you finished your chemo or just right before surgery??

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.
