How are you doing? My family was here so I couldn't go to group last Tuesday and I will be sick after chemo at the time of the next group most likely. You have been in my thoughts.0June 2015

Hi Doreen,
If you would like me to send you the exact mg. for each of the supplements, I can do that. I don't mind at all. I was so healthy throughout my chemo, radiation, and herceptin that I think the supplements really helped a lot. God mostly, but the supplements really took away most of the side effects.
I had some other supplements while I was on chemo, so if you would like me to look up what I took during chemo, I don't mind doing that either. Just let me know and I am happy to help.
Best wishes and God bless!

I have HER2 positive cancer. I was on a clinical trial for the drug Perjeta (Pertuzumab). This trial was a "double blind" trial in that neither I nor my oncologist knows if I received the actual drug or a placebo. When on a trial, you are monitored closely and you can stop the trial any time you want to.
It was hard for me to make the decision to participate in the trial, especially because when first told about it, I had not yet begun chemo and I did not know as much about the treatment and my cancer as I do now. I did decide to do it because after talking with the Breast Care Navigator, she explained to me a little more about how trials work. The trial I participated in was not in the early stages. Seems like trials have different phases. I participated in a Phase III trial. It didn't seem quit as risky as a Phase 1 trial.
The following is info about clinical trials I found at ClinicalTrials.gov
Clinical trials are conducted in a series of steps, called phases - each phase is designed to answer a separate research question.
Phase I: Researchers test a new drug or treatment in a small group of people for the first time to evaluate its safety, determine a safe dosage range, and identify side effects.
Phase II: The drug or treatment is given to a larger group of people to see if it is effective and to further evaluate its safety.
Phase III: The drug or treatment is given to large groups of people to confirm its effectiveness, monitor side effects, compare it to commonly used treatments, and collect information that will allow the drug or treatment to be used safely.
Phase IV: Studies are done after the drug or treatment has been marketed to gather information on the drug's effect in various populations and any side effects associated with long-term use.
So I would say in order to determine if you should participate in a Clinical trial, I would want to know what phase of the trial you would be participating in, what are the risks, what are the benefits, can you stop participating at any time for any reason, and what does your oncologist and/or other doctors think about it?0December 2014 -
DoreenLouise, I hope by now they have started your treatments. Two months is a long time to wait to be treated for stage III cancer. If they haven't started treatment, I urge you to go to another doctor that will start your treatment. In the meantime, welcome to the site. I am sure that you will find this a friendly place to come when you need someone to talk to. We are all in the same boat when it comes to emotions and feelings about our health. Just know that no question is to silly to ask and if you need to vent because you are having a bad day, we are here for you. I hope you find this site as helpful to you as it has been for me.0December 2014
