    Hi Melanie,
I am seeing blood oncologist for my mgus (pre multiple myeloma) & I also have numerous cysts in my left kidney & have stage two kidney failure..doctor (gp) repeated bloods for me Friday to eliminate shingles as the cause for the level rise...I go back to oncologist Wednesday & really feel I should have pet scan...apparently pet scans are not covered under Medicare for breast cancer even if there are secondaries so I'm not sure how much I would have to pay if the doctor agrees to refer me for one & whether I can afford it

Hello Melanie IIB - I am also a stage IIB and had a bi-lateral mastectomy. I read your post about DIEP Flap which I am scheduled to have in a couple of weeks. Can you give me any tips on how to prepare for recovery time at home? I will be alone most of the time when I get home from the hospital. I hope my surgeon (not in Texas) does as well as yours did for you. Happy to read that your surgery went so well and you are pleased with results. Meg

Merry Christmas, Melanie! Hope you have some wonderful time as you celebrate the birth of Jesus.
I continue healing, PS says I'm doing fine, continue with restrictions. Lymphedema is acting up a little, to the clinic on Mon. I think it's from cooking and baking.
Will be a very busy next few days. Temps in the 60's, then dropping tonight. May get a little white stuff. Just want the roads to be clear as we will be traveling.
My e-mail is m underscore todd at yahoo dot com, no spaces. Would be easier to communicate that way probably.
Merry, Merry CHRISTmas and God bless.

    Hi Melanie!
How are you feeling after fat grafting by now? Hope the soreness is gone. Are you pleased with results so far?
Saw the PS this week. He said I'm healing well, continue with 10 lb limit thru Jan. Just have to watch for reaction to stitches.
Going to watch Lee this afternoon. Poor kid has an ear infection, so soon after surgery. Wish he could stay home for a month to get healthy.
    Praying you are doing well.

    Melanie,
How has your back held up with surgery? With upcoming surgery, I worry about laying on my back for extended period again. I'm very stiff every morning, but loosen up with ice and activity. Really stiff today with 8 hours of outside work yesterday. Trying to get everything done before Mon. YIKES!

MelaniellB, not sure what my treatment will be. My first Oncologist visit is on the 30th. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for the worst chemo possible. I plan on being completely bald. I wonder how bumpy my head will be?? ;)

Thank you Melanie. I appreciated your advice. I actually attended Church last night and have been reading my bible daily to try and understand why God would do this to my family. I am doing all I can to prepare for the journey ahead.

You asked on another board about radiation blisters treatment - yes, my rad. oncologist gave me a prescription for silverdene burn cream and mepilex silcone sheets to cover them. All but 2 blisters have now either healed or scabbed over. Thanks for asking.

    Melanie,
Just realized this is probably your surgery day. Praying all goes well and you wake up with amazing new boobs! Remember to push the pain meds button before trying to sit up. Forgot to tell you that one.

Thank you so much for the details you posted about your chemo treatments in response to my question about recurrence. Good luck with your decision about reconstruction and let us know how things go.
