I had mastectomy as first step as I originally started with chemo but could not tolerate it, ended up in hospital, doctor decided to do surgery first and then chemo. I went through surgery fine, was told "the surgeon got all the cancer" Of course I was very happy to hear that! I did follow up with additional chemo which I tolerated ok but I kept having issues with neutropenia. I also had 6 weeks of radiation. After than had scan, was told "no sign of disease, no metastasis" 18 months later, recurrence - same side in the mastectomy site. Not operable. Initially put on Xeloda, did 6 rounds; now moving on to IV chemo AGAIN...not sure I can do this.
