I had never been seriously ill either, and I was terrified. I was on 5FU and oxaliplatin too. The Oxi makes your hands very cold sensitive for about 4-5 days - you have to get someone to get cold stuff out of the frig or freezer for you or wear heavy gloves. Most people do fine with this regimen and it's effective - I am still NED after Stage IV diagnosis - the chemo is to keep you from progressing.
You are braver than you know. It's normal to cry, but once the crying is done, get your "Big Girl" panties on fight.
I'm retired now, but I work out at the gym, walk a couple of miles several times a week, and I am a freelance writer.
Keep in touch, and I'll answer your questions.0
