Initially stage I/II; February 1999, left nephrectomy, fully contained, no other treatment needed and was followed/scanned for 6 years.
Felt lump at top of sternum which was biopsied in April 2014, stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma. Received 10 rounds of radiation and started on Votrient, 800 mg, oral daily and Zometa IV infusion every 3 months. Received 10 additional rounds of radiation 1-1/2 years later. Treated with Votrient for 4 years then changed to Opdivo IV immunotherapy every 4 weeks and have continued with Zometa. Additional metastasis have since been found in a lymph node in the front of my neck, a mass in the back of my neck towards my left shoulder and a tumor around my cervical spine which fortunately does not compromise the stability of my spine. My diagnosis is treatable but not curable, however you never know what new treatments will become available!
