what does " examination demonstrates only background activity" on a PET Scan mean?

    In short, good news. PET scans reveal areas of increased metabolic activity, such as rapidly dividing cancer cells. "Background" activity is normal metabolic activity. It is against the background that areas of increased activity are spotted.

    +1. Listen to Kp and don't freak out, even if faced with a not so fine PET. Miraculous things are being done these days, and it sounds like your case is one of them.

    You should wait and discuss with your treating doctor. The explanation from Kp2018 might be correct but only your treating doctor knows for sure! Good luck!
