Have any of you taken the drug Zarxio to keep your WBC up?

My blood counts have been consistently running low and my doctor said that if they are low again the next time he will start me on Zarxio. I've never heard of it, of course, I've never heard of a lot of medical things until this started. Just wondering if anyone here has taken it and if there were side effects from it.

I searched our data and found a few responses where that drug has been talked about. Here is the search

If not Zarxio, then bio-similar Neopogen and/or Neulasta. during stem cell collection and after one of more of my chemo regimens. Some have bone pain, as the drug induces your marrow to produce excess neutrophils, which are a high percentage of your white blood cells. However, the production rate is so high that your marrow is packed full to overflowing with these white blood cells. From the Wiki:
"Neutrophils (also known as neutrocytes or heterophils) are the most abundant type of granulocytes and the make up 40% to 70% of all white blood cells in humans.[1] They form an essential part of the innate immune system, with their functions varying in different animals."
This increase in production puts pressure on the nerves lining the insides of your bones and can lead to soreness or pain. Many have said that the over-the-counter allergy medication Claritin provides relief. No one knows why, but there are far too many positive stories for this to be coincidence. If you experience soreness or pain, it is certainly worth a try.0 -
Thanks PO, good information as always.0
